
Tax Accountant

The Tax Accountant will be responsible in ensuring that all tax assessments, refunds, and compliance requirements are properly monitored and executed. The role involves timely submission of tax documents, reconciliations, and close coordination with tax authorities and consultants to successfully close audits, resolve tax issues, and improve tax-related processes.
Key Responsibilities & Deliverables (KRAs)
- Tax Risk Management & Process Improvement: Collaborate with the Tax Compliance team to assess the company's tax compliance posture and implement improvements.
- Tax Audit & Refund Management: Handle BIR audits and local government unit (LGU) tax assessments, ensuring timely reconciliations and research of legal defenses.
- Timely Filing & Payment of Taxes: Ensure the accurate and timely filing of tax returns and the corresponding payment of liabilities in coordination with the GL accountants and Treasury department.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure full compliance with tax regulations set by the BIR, BOC, LGUs, and other concerned regulatory agencies.
A. Tax Audits, Litigation, Refunds, & Health Checks
- Complete documentation and reconciliations to support BIR tax audits.
- Conduct internal tax health checks by preparing required documents and reports.
- Monitor tax issues and assessments from LGUs and other regulatory bodies.
- Handle tax refund applications, ensuring timely and accurate documentation.
- Work with tax consultants to address compliance issues and optimize tax positions.
B. Tax Return Filing & Payments
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual tax returns (e.g., ARF, EWT, FWT, WVAT, FBT, VAT, ITR) for review and approval.
- Reconcile tax returns vs. accounting records and resolve discrepancies with financial accountants.
- Coordinate tax payments with the Treasury department, ensuring timely remittances.
C. Reportorial & Compliance Requirements
- Submit annual information returns and alphalists to BIR.
- Oversee the annual submission of computerized books of accounts, inventory listings, and accounting records to BIR.
- Process applications for Authority to Print (ATP) official receipts and Computerized Accounting System (CAS) accreditation for newly acquired companies.
- Compile documents for Tax Treaty Relief Applications (TTRA) and Requests for Confirmation (RFC) for ITAD applications.
- Assist in securing Income Tax Holiday (ITH) certificates and BOI incentives.
D. Business Permit Processing & Real Property Tax (RPT) Payments
- Manage the annual renewal of business permits and Local Business Tax (LBT) declarations.
- Ensure companies under ITH exemptions comply with current LBT regulations.
- Facilitate Real Property Tax (RPT) assessments and payments.
E. Tax Advisory & Contract Review
- Provide guidance on tax rates, implications, and compliance requirements.
- Prepare Tax Verification Sheets as needed.
- Review the tax impact of new contracts and business transactions.
F. System & Process Improvement
- Identify gaps in tax processes and implement improvements.
- Collaborate with IT and finance teams on system enhancements (e.g., SAP/Netsuite implementation).
G. Year-End Audits & Special Projects
- Assist in external audits by providing necessary tax documents and reconciliations.
- Support the Tax Planning Team in risk assessments and tax-saving initiatives.
- Handle ad hoc projects as assigned by management.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accountancy (Must be a CPA).
- 3+ years of experience in tax audits, compliance, and planning (preferably in the power industry or public practice).
- Strong understanding of BIR, LGU, and regulatory tax requirements.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint (Advanced Excel skills preferred).
- Experience with ERP systems (SAP/Netsuite) and BIR tax filing systems is an advantage.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
