Job Description

The Field Biologist will assist the Supervisor of Biodiversity in conducting field assessments, surveys, and research activities focused on biodiversity and ecological conservation. This includes gathering data, monitoring species and habitats, and contributing to the understanding and management of biodiversity within the organization's projects or initiatives.

Job Responsibilities

The Supervisor Biodiversity has the following responsibilities:

  1. Field Assessments and Surveys: Conduct biodiversity assessments and surveys to document and monitor species diversity, population dynamics, and habitat conditions. Use appropriate sampling techniques, field equipment, and identification tools to collect accurate data.

  1. Data Collection and Analysis: Collect and record field data, including species sightings, ecological measurements, and environmental parameters. Organize and manage data using appropriate software and databases. Analyze data to identify trends, patterns, and potential impacts on biodiversity.

  1. Species Identification and Monitoring: Identify plant and animal species using taxonomic keys, field guides, and other resources. Monitor species populations, behavior, and habitat use. Participate in monitoring programs to track changes in biodiversity over time.

  1. Habitat Mapping and Assessment: Assess and map different habitat types, including terrestrial, aquatic, and transitional ecosystems. Document habitat characteristics, evaluate their ecological value, and identify potential threats or areas of concern.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's or master's degree in biology, ecology, environmental science, or a related field.

  2. At least 3 years in managing biodiversity conservation projects, environmental restoration, and offset management.

  3. Proven experience in conducting field surveys, biodiversity assessments, or ecological research. Strong knowledge of biodiversity conservation principles, ecological concepts, and survey methodologies. Familiarity with plant and animal identification techniques, including the use of field guides and taxonomic keys.

  4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  5. Knowledge of IFC PS requirements is preferred.
