About this role. . .

The Intermediate Accountant will prepare financial statements and tax returns for various entities, ensure accurate account reconciliation, and support compliance with Australian tax regulations. This remote role requires experience in Australian public practice, proficiency in Handitax, Handiledger, and Xero, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare financial statements and income tax returns for various business structures, including companies, trusts, partnerships, and sole traders.
• Reconcile accounts, maintain general ledgers, and ensure accuracy in financial reporting.
• Assist in preparing and lodging Business Activity Statements (BAS), Instalment Activity Statements (IAS), and payroll-related compliance reports.
• Communicate with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) regarding client matters, including lodgment queries, payment arrangements, and compliance issues.
• Perform bookkeeping and data entry using Handitax, Handiledger and Xero.
• Review and process client documents efficiently and accurately, ensuring compliance with Australian accounting and taxation standards.
• Maintain confidentiality and ensure all records are organized and up to date.
• Support other accounting and administrative tasks as required by the firm.

About You. . .

Qualifications / Skills:

• Minimum 2-3 years of experience in Australian public practice accounting
• Bachelor's degree in accounting
• CA or CPA or equivalent qualification or working towards
• Proficiency in Handitax and Handiledger is highly advantageous
• Strong understanding of Australian tax compliance and reporting standards
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills
• Self-motivated, reliable, and capable of working independently with minimal supervision
