- Patient Care and Counseling:
- Provide essential patient counseling on proper medication usage, potential side effects, and precautions, explaining complex medical information in an understandable way.
- Offer health consultations and preventive care, such as administering vaccines and conducting health screenings (e.g., for blood pressure or cholesterol).
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to develop and monitor patient treatment plans.
- Operational and Regulatory Duties:
- Manage overall pharmacy inventory, including monitoring stock levels, ordering supplies, and ensuring proper storage conditions (e.g., temperature monitoring).
- Maintain meticulous records of prescriptions, patient profiles, and controlled substances to meet legal and regulatory requirements from agencies like the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
- Supervise and train pharmacy assistants and technicians, ensuring all team members adhere to standards and procedures.
For a Pharmacy Assistant/TechnicianPharmacy assistants or technicians work under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, handling many of the day-to-day administrative and technical tasks.
- Assisting Pharmacists:
- Prepare and package medications accurately by counting, pouring, and labeling bottles for the pharmacist's final check.
- Receive and process prescription orders and assist with simple compounding tasks.
- Customer Service:
- Greet customers, answer basic inquiries, and help them locate merchandise.
- Operate the cash register and process payments for both prescription and OTC items.
- Administrative and Inventory Support:
- Manage inventory by restocking shelves, monitoring expiration dates, and informing the pharmacist of stock requirements.
- Perform general clerical tasks, such as maintaining patient records and filing documentation.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment and ensure equipment is in good working order.
