Chief Engineer/Engineering Manager oversees the entire engineering and maintenance operations of the hotel, ensuring that all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and structural systems are safe, reliable, and efficiently maintained. The role ensures compliance with safety regulations, preventive maintenance schedules, and operational standards expected of a 4-star property, while also managing the engineering team effectively.
Key Responsibilities
Maintenance & Operations
Direct and supervise day-to-day engineering and maintenance activities.
Ensure all hotel equipment, systems, and facilities (electrical, mechanical, HVAC, water, plumbing, fire safety) are functioning at optimal levels.
Implement and monitor preventive maintenance programs for guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house facilities.
Respond promptly to breakdowns and service requests from departments and guests.
Safety & Compliance
Ensure strict compliance with health, safety, fire, and environmental regulations.
Oversee inspections and maintenance of fire safety equipment and emergency systems.
Maintain required permits, certifications, and documentation in line with government regulations.
Train staff on emergency procedures and workplace safety practices.
Team Management
Recruit, train, and supervise engineering staff and technicians.
Prepare work schedules, assign tasks, and monitor staff performance.
Conduct regular team meetings and performance evaluations.
Promote a culture of accountability, discipline, and teamwork.
Budgeting & Cost Control
Prepare and manage the engineering department's budget.
Control maintenance expenses while ensuring operational quality.
Source and manage suppliers, contractors, and service providers.
Monitor inventory and usage of spare parts, tools, and supplies.
Coordination & Communication
Work closely with other departments (Housekeeping, F&B, Front Office, Security) to resolve maintenance issues and support hotel operations.
Coordinate with project teams and contractors for renovations, upgrades, or new installations.
Report regularly to the General Manager on operational updates, equipment status, and improvement plans.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil Engineering, or related technical field.
Professional Engineering License (preferred).
Minimum 5 years of engineering/maintenance experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory/managerial role in hospitality (preferably 4-star or higher).
Strong knowledge of building systems, energy management, and preventive maintenance.
Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Ability to work under pressure, on-call, and flexible hours.
