ROLE DESCRIPTION
The Tax Specialist is responsible for managing and analyzing the company's tax obligations and ensuring compliance local tax laws. This role involves preparing tax returns, conducting tax research, and supporting tax planning and compliance activities. The Tax Analyst will work closely with the Compliance Manager to ensure accurate and timely tax reporting and contribute to the overall tax strategy of the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and file federal, state, and local tax returns in a timely manner.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of tax returns, including income, sales, and property taxes.
- Stay current with changes in tax laws and regulations to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Implement procedures to adhere to tax filing requirements and deadlines.
- Prepare detailed tax reports and schedules for management review and regulatory submissions.
- Compile and analyze data required for tax filings and audits.
- Analyze financial data to support tax reporting and ensure accurate tax calculations.
- Assist in the development and implementation of tax planning strategies to minimize tax liabilities.
- Evaluate the tax implications of business transactions and corporate structures.
- Perform research on tax issues and provide recommendations for tax-saving opportunities.
- Assist with internal and external tax audits by providing necessary documentation and information.
- Respond to audit inquiries and resolve issues related to tax filings.
- Ensure thorough and organized documentation of all tax-related activities and correspondence.
- Monitor and review company transactions for compliance with tax laws and regulations.
- Identify potential tax issues and work with the Compliance Supervisor to address them.
- Evaluate and recommend improvements to tax compliance and reporting processes.
- Implement best practices to streamline tax reporting and minimize errors.
- Provide support to the Compliance Supervisor with tax-related projects and initiatives.
- Assist in preparing materials for tax strategy meetings and compliance reviews.
- Work with finance, legal, and other departments to ensure accurate tax reporting and compliance.
- Assess and identify potential tax risks and liabilities.
- Develop strategies to mitigate tax-related risks and ensure proper documentation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in tax accounting or compliance.
- Strong understanding of federal, state, and local tax regulations.
- Proficiency in tax software and accounting systems; experience with [specific software] is a plus.
- Excellent analytical skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with internal teams and external partners.
