We are looking for an Intermediate Accountant (Offshore) to join a growing New Zealand accounting practice transitioning from MYOB AO to the Xero suite (Xero Blue, Xero Practice Manager, and Xero HQ). You will take ownership of client delivery work — including bookkeeping, GST returns, and preparing financial statements to review-ready stage — supporting around 200 small business and sole trader clients.
This is an exciting opportunity to work closely with the Practice Owner and be part of a forward-thinking firm focused on process improvement and client service excellence.
Responsibilities
Client Accounting & Compliance:
- Manage ongoing coding and reconciliation of transactions across client Xero files.
- Prepare and review GST returns for multiple entities.
- Draft annual financial statements and working papers to review-ready standard.
- Handle simple compliance work for investment property clients.
System & Process Support:
- Support the migration and setup of clients within Xero Practice Manager.
- Maintain client records and supporting documentation within Microsoft 365 (SharePoint, OneDrive, Excel).
- Contribute to improving internal processes and consistency during the transition to the Xero suite.
Client Communication:
- Communicate directly with clients regarding missing information, coding queries, or clarifications.
- Assist with basic payroll processing for small-business clients in Xero Payroll (e.g., timesheet checks, payday filing).
Requirements
Required Skills/Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 2–4 years of accounting experience within a New Zealand or Australian public practice environment.
- Strong proficiency with Xero and Microsoft 365 (Excel, SharePoint, OneDrive).
- Familiarity with NZ GST compliance cycles and small business accounting.
- Excellent attention to detail, reconciliation, and accuracy.
- Comfortable with direct client communication.
Preferred Skills/Experience:
- Exposure to accounting practice migrations or system transitions.
- Experience with investment property clients.
- Understanding of MYOB AO and Xero Practice Manager integration.
