Frontend Developer –

Overview

We're looking to hire a senior frontend developer to take ownership of the frontend of our platform. Your first major focus will be implementing our new UI redesign inside the existing application, but beyond that you'll continue owning, improving and scaling the frontend as the product evolves.

You'll turn designs and requirements into clean, reusable, responsive React components and take the lead in establishing a consistent component architecture and frontend code standards for the product. The focus is on building a maintainable, scalable and professional frontend foundation - not just matching screens to a design file.

You will be the first dedicated frontend hire, working alongside me (Full-Stack Developer) as I focus on backend, API, and database work. As the product grows, you will become the point-person for frontend decisions, abstractions, and best practices.

Our stack: , React, TypeScript, Bootstrap and custom CSS.

This role is for someone with strong attention to visual detail, excellent knowledge of modern frontend patterns and the discipline to write code that will be reused across the platform.

Key Responsibilities

● Implement new UI screens and components from Figma designs inside the existing codebase

● Rebuild pages with a focus on responsiveness, polish and clean component composition

● Create reusable, well-abstracted components that will be used across multiple screens

● Identify existing disorganised or inconsistent frontend structures and refactor where necessary to ensure clarity, consistency, and long-term maintainability

● Ensure UI integrates correctly with backend endpoints, data structures and routing

● Improve styling consistency and help shape the evolving design system

● Own the frontend build quality (spacing, typography, transitions, forms, error states, etc).

● Write maintainable TypeScript and follow established code standards

● Communicate regularly through GitHub, async updates and short video call check-ins

● Proactively identify UI issues, inconsistencies, or missing states and suggest solutions

Required Qualifications

● Experienced developer with 4+ years of professional frontend experience and a proven track record delivering production-quality applications (not just tutorials or personal projects).

● Strong skills in TypeScript, React hooks, component structure, and state management

● Strong understanding of responsive layouts, modern CSS structure, and UI/UX principles

● Experience converting Figma (or similar) designs into accurate components

● Comfortable working inside an existing app, not just greenfield projects

● Able to collaborate with backend dev and integrate with existing (and evolving) API

● Write clear, meaningful code comments and documentation where appropriate to support maintainability and team onboarding

● Good written English for async communication and GitHub PRs

Preferred Skills

● Experience refactoring or replacing UI inside an existing production codebase

● Experience building or maintaining a component library / design system

● Experience in small teams or early-stage product environments

● Understanding of backend concepts (Axios, routes, JSON shape, auth flow, etc.)

Work Environment & Details

● Fully remote role

● Requires overlap with Australian business hours (AEST/AEDT)

● First frontend hire — you will influence patterns, standards, and component structure

● Work includes both building new UI and upgrading existing screens to the new design
