Laboratory Receptionist

Job description:

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Handles phone inquiries
• Ensures promptness, timeliness and accuracy in release of CVL and laboratory results.
• -Assess patient's needs
• Screens patient's request
• Asks patient to fill out patient assessment form
• Checks / verifies date given by patient
• Checks requests of referring MD
• Instructs patient on requirements and preparation for the procedure
• Ensures completeness of patient information and assessment form
• Ensures completeness of requirements for patients undergoing laboratory procedures
• Attends various training conducted by the department, HRD, ICC and other interrelated department.
• Implements learning and knowledge gained from continuing education
• Meets competency skill / periodic proficiency assessment
• Assures that adequate ambulatory supply levels are maintained in a cost effective manner.
• Ensure the reception area, including foyer, are kept clean, safe and tidy at all times
• Posts charge patients accurately
• Checks supplies to be used for the day
• Monitors movement of supplies in phlebotomy area.
• Brings unusual situations to the attention of the supervisor
• Receives, checks and acknowledges specimens
• Rejects specimens whenever necessary.
• Retrieves information using the laboratory computer system where required.
• Ensures timeliness of delivery of results to concerned units.
• Update all reception notice boards ensuring figures are kept up to date
• Sorting and filing of results
• Document all result released to outpatient.
• Handles incoming phone calls
• Performs other substantially related duties that maybe assigned from time to time.
• Complete incident reports as required.
• Assists other laboratory personnel when work is completed.
• Ensures that reports are accurate and timely.
• Participates in laboratory teaching and quality improvement programs.
• Maintains responsibility for gaining knowledge through continuing education.
• Maintains safe-working practices at all times.
• Maintains patient confidentiality.
• Performs other responsibilities and task, as needed.
• Takes lead role in the provision of adequate and safe environment for patients and the personnel.

Educational Qualification and Licensures:

• Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology, / Clinical Laboratory Science or other Medical Degree holder.

Professional Experience:

• Not necessary but desirable experience of working in a clinical based setting.
