Kitchen Steward

maintains the cleanliness and sanitation of a commercial kitchen and its equipment, dishes, and utensils. Key duties include washing dishes, mopping floors, sanitizing work areas, managing waste, and restocking supplies. They also support kitchen staff by performing basic prep tasks, and may be responsible for reporting any maintenance or safety issues. Core responsibilities

• Cleanliness and sanitation: Wash dishes, glassware, and cookware using dishwashers or by hand; sanitize surfaces, floors, and equipment like ovens and grills; and maintain general cleanliness of all kitchen areas.
• Waste management: Remove and properly dispose of trash and recycling.
• Restocking: Keep kitchen stocked with necessary supplies, such as plates, glasses, and cleaning materials.
• Equipment maintenance: Clean, sanitize, and organize kitchen equipment; report any equipment malfunctions or hazards to a supervisor.
• Support: Assist chefs and cooks with basic tasks like vegetable prep or blending soups when needed.
• Compliance: Ensure all food safety and sanitation regulations are followed.

Required skills and qualifications

• Knowledge of basic kitchen hygiene and cleaning practices.
• Ability to operate commercial dishwashing machines.
• Physical stamina to stand for long periods and lift heavy items.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to follow safety procedures and guidelines, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Good communication skills for reporting issues and working with other staff.
