Role Summary:

We are looking for a Program Intern to support our team in the Philippines. The Program Intern at Smile Train Philippines will be immersed in a hands-on learning experience and will have an opportunity to gain valuable experience in a nonprofit organization and charity providing top-quality, safe cleft surgery and comprehensive care. The Program Intern will provide essential administrative support, but other responsibilities vary depending on the need.

The Program Intern will report to the Area Director for Southeast Asia. This is a one-year intern role based in the Philippines, starting as soon as possible. Minimal domestic travel is expected. The Program Intern will work, at minimum, 20 hours per week.

 Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Support the Area Director for Southeast Asia in data analysis and visualization and updating of records database;
  • Support the Area Director for Southeast Asia in drafting the minutes of the meeting, PowerPoint presentations and other duties as assigned;
  • Support the Area Director for Southeast Asia to closely monitor quality and completeness of audit reports including correct scoring in the accomplished audit checklists;
  • Support the Area Director for Southeast Asia in documenting partner hospitals background information including critical events and complications that occurred and/or safety standard issues;
  • Support the Area Director for Southeast Asia in the assessment of needs, real-time capabilities and identification of areas for improvement in our partner hospitals;
  • Complete daily log of activities and accomplishments, focusing on something that you learned each day;
  • Review and understand Smile Train safety and quality protocols and best practices.
  • Participate in team safety audit meetings, plan presentations, etc.

Essential Selection Criteria:

  • Currently enrolled or have recently graduated from a relevant degree program (moonlighting) in Public Health, Medicine, Nursing, Occupational Safety, etc.;
  • Experience in project management, health care, or international development is a plus
  • Highly proficient in English – both oral communication and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Detailed-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • High degree of computer literacy (Microsoft Office, Zoom, etc.), ability to navigate databases and analyze datasets with keen attention to details.
  • Experience doing spatial map or heat map is an advantage

Compensation Range:
The program intern will receive a compensation of Php17,200 per month, inclusive of domestic travel expenses (taxi fares)

Travel: 

The Program Intern will be expected to support Smile Trains Philippines' activities and projects. While most of these mentioned activities will be done remotely, there may be additional activities, which require on-site support. Adequate notice will be given to the Intern in the case of in-person activities.
