A radiology clerk performs administrative and clerical tasks in a radiology department, including patient registration, scheduling appointments, managing patient records, and handling phone inquiries. They ensure smooth workflow by preparing files for radiologists and technologists, inputting data into a radiology information system (RIS), and maintaining patient confidentiality. This role requires strong organizational skills and attention to detail to support efficient department operations and patient care. Key responsibilities
- Patient interaction: Greet patients, verify their information, and provide assistance with general queries and procedures.
- Scheduling: Schedule and organize appointments for patients, ensuring templates are managed to full capacity.
- Record management: Maintain and organize patient records, including both paper files and digital imaging data. This involves filing, retrieving, and distributing records as needed.
- Data entry and systems management: Register patients into hospital databases and the Radiology Information System (RIS), and perform data entry of radiology information.
- Administrative support: Perform general office duties like faxing, copying, and ordering supplies.
- Communication: Act as a liaison between patients, technologists, physicians, and other administrative staff.
- Confidentiality: Ensure that all patient information is kept confidential in compliance with privacy regulations.
Qualifications and skills
- Education: College Graduate of Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Technologist
- Technical skills: Proficiency in data entry and computer systems, especially medical record-keeping systems like RIS. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel is often needed.
- Interpersonal skills: Strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills are essential for interacting with patients and coordinating with staff.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with medical terminology and an understanding of human anatomy and radiology exams is often helpful.
