BIAN Architect

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly experienced BIAN Architect Consultant to support a leading bank in the Philippines in its enterprise architecture transformation journey. The consultant will be responsible for designing and implementing solutions aligned with the Banking Industry Architecture Network (BIAN) framework, ensuring modularity, interoperability, and scalability across banking services.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Lead the creation of coalesced views of business and technology capabilities
  
  Develop integrated capability maps using BIAN Service Domains, aligning business functions (e.g., Loans, Deposits, Payments) with enabling technologies.
  
  Tools: ArchiMate, Sparx EA, MEGA HOPEX
• Champion ideas that improve technology value delivery
  
  Promote API-first, event-driven, and cloud-native architectures to accelerate modernization.
  
  Technologies: Spring Boot, Kubernetes, Kafka, Azure API Management
• Participate in opportunity assessment for new technologies
  
  Evaluate emerging tech such as Banking-as-a-Service (BaaS), Open Banking APIs, and AI-driven fraud detection.
  
  Platforms: Mambu, Finastra, Temenos Infinity or similar
• Lead architecture strategy for core banking domain
  
  Define modernization paths for legacy systems (e.g., Flexcube, Finacle) using BIAN-aligned microservices.
  
  Technologies: Docker, Istio, OpenShift
• Understand security and infrastructure patterns
  
  Ensure compliance with BSP cybersecurity guidelines, implement zero-trust architecture, and secure APIs.
  
  Tools: Azure Security Center, HashiCorp Vault, Zscaler and the likes
• Understand APIs and Events patterns and guide implementations
  
  Architect event-driven systems using Kafka, RabbitMQ, and define OpenAPI contracts for BIAN services.
  
  Tools: Postman, Swagger, WSO2 and similar
• Senior Stakeholder Management
  
  Engage C-level stakeholders with insights on digital banking trends, fintech disruption, and regulatory shifts.
  
  Use cases: Digital onboarding, real-time payments, AI in credit scoring
• Understand how technology, processes, people, and data fit together
  
  Map end-to-end banking journeys and align them with BIAN domains and enterprise data models.
• Understand regulatory frameworks for retail and corporate banking
  
  Ensure architecture supports AML/KYC, DPA, BSP Circulars, and ISO 20022 compliance.
• Define target architectures and roadmaps
  
  Create transition architectures and multi-year modernization roadmaps using TOGAF ADM.
• Lead full lifecycle delivery of technical solutions
  
  From requirements gathering to operational support, ensure architecture is scalable and maintainable.
  
  Methodologies: Agile, SAFe, DevSecOps
• Understand BIAN Capability Model
  
  Apply BIAN's semantic API standards, Business Scenarios, and Service Domains to model enterprise capabilities.
• Identify and establish bank entities aligned to BIAN components
  
  Define BQ (Behavior Qualifiers), CR (Control Records), and map them to Philippine banking operations.
• Map applications to enterprise banking capabilities
  
  Rationalize legacy applications and align them with BIAN-aligned services and APIs.
• Lead architecture stream of transformation program
  
  Act as technical lead and BIAN evangelist, driving alignment across business and IT teams.
• Proactively identify improvement opportunities
  
  Recommend automation, data-driven decisioning, and platform consolidation strategies.
• Understand Event-Driven Architecture
  
  Design systems that respond to real-time banking events (e.g., transaction alerts, fraud detection).
  
  Technologies: Apache Kafka, AWS EventBridge, Azure Event Grid

Job Requirements

• Experience in leading core banking transformation programs
  
  Proven track record in modernizing legacy systems and implementing next-gen banking platforms.
• Ability to define BIAN solutions for enterprise modernization
  
  Experience in both big bang and strangler pattern approaches to transformation.
• Deep knowledge of retail and corporate banking
  
  Familiarity with products like SME loans, trade finance, digital wallets, and real-time payments.
• Outstanding presentation and strategy communication skills
  
  Able to socialize architecture vision with executive leadership, regulators, and delivery teams.
• Trusted liaison between business and IT
  
  Translate business needs into BIAN-aligned technical solutions and vice versa.
• Ability to identify service domains and create capability models
  
  Use BIAN's Service Landscape to define modular, reusable banking services.
• Define BIAN-aligned API contracts
  
  Create OpenAPI specs for service domains like Customer Offer Management, Product Inventory, etc.
• Define workflows for service domain communication
  
  Model inter-domain interactions using BPMN, UML, and event choreography.
• Represent the bank in BIAN global forums
  
  Participate in BIAN working groups, contribute to standard evolution, and share local insights.
• Feedback gaps to BIAN consortium
  
  Identify localization needs (e.g., regulatory, cultural) and propose enhancements to BIAN standards.
• Map bank's data to BIAN Business Object Model (BOM)
  
  Align data architecture with BIAN's BOM for consistency and interoperability.
• Effort estimation and costing for large-scale deals
  
  Experience in solutioning, RFP responses, and multi-million dollar architecture programs.
• Excellent problem resolution and people management skills
  
  Lead cross-functional teams and resolve delivery challenges proactively.
• Meet governance forum requirements
  
  Prepare and present architecture artifacts for design authority, risk committees, and audit reviews.
• Chair architecture governance forums
  
  Set up and lead architecture boards, define principles, and ensure compliance.
• BIAN Certified (Preferred)
  
  Certification from or equivalent training is highly desirable.
