Role Overview

We are seeking experienced
Middleware Administrators and Leads
to manage and optimize our enterprise middleware ecosystem. The ideal candidates will have strong technical expertise in
Message-Oriented Middleware (MOM)
,
Event-Driven Architecture (EDA)
, and
API Management
platforms, ensuring secure, scalable, and reliable integration across systems.

Key Responsibilities

Messaging & Event Streaming (Kafka, IBM MQ, Red Hat AMQ)

  • Installation & Configuration:
    Install, configure, and manage middleware components including
    IBM MQ Queue Managers
    ,
    Kafka brokers/clusters
    (IBM Event Streams or Red Hat AMQ Streams on OpenShift), and
    Red Hat AMQ messaging brokers
    .
  • Administration:
    Perform core administration tasks — create and maintain queues, topics, channels, listeners, pub/sub configurations, and access control lists (ACLs).
  • Monitoring & Optimization:
    Implement robust monitoring, logging, and alerting to track system health, throughput, and latency. Tune systems for performance and scalability.
  • Troubleshooting:
    Diagnose and resolve complex production issues related to connectivity, message flow, and integration errors across middleware platforms.
  • Security:
    Enforce security best practices — SSL/TLS setup, access control (e.g., OAM for MQ, SASL for Kafka), and identity integration.
  • High Availability & Disaster Recovery:
    Design and implement HA/DR strategies, including MQ clustering and multi-broker Kafka deployments.

API Management (IBM API Connect - APIC)

  • Administration:
    Install, configure, and maintain
    IBM API Connect (APIC)
    components — Management Server, Gateway (DataPower), Developer Portal, and Analytics.
  • API Lifecycle Management:
    Oversee full API lifecycle from design to retirement, including versioning, deployment, and policy enforcement.
  • Security:
    Implement and manage API security policies — OAuth, client credentials, rate limiting, and traffic control.
  • Developer Portal Management:
    Configure and maintain portals for internal and external API consumers.
  • Integration:
    Work with development teams to publish, secure, and monitor APIs via the APIC platform.

Automation & DevOps

  • Scripting & Automation:
    Develop and maintain automation scripts (Python, Bash, Ansible, Terraform) for configuration, deployment, patching, and operational tasks.
  • CI/CD Integration:
    Integrate middleware and API configurations into CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI).
  • Containerization:
    Deploy and manage middleware within
    Docker
    and
    Kubernetes/Red Hat OpenShift
    environments (e.g., using Operators for AMQ/Kafka Streams and CP4I for IBM products).

Required Technical Skill Set

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in
    Middleware Administration
    , especially with
    MOM
    or
    EDA
    platforms.
  • Deep expertise in
    Apache Kafka
    (or IBM Event Streams / Red Hat AMQ Streams).
  • Strong experience with
    IBM MQ (WebSphere MQ)
    on Linux/UNIX and/or z/OS.
  • Practical experience managing
    Red Hat AMQ (Broker/Interconnect)
    .
  • Proven experience with
    IBM API Connect (APIC)
    implementation and operations.
  • Solid proficiency in
    Linux/UNIX
    and
    shell scripting (Bash, Python)
    .
  • Familiarity with
    DevOps tools
    — Git, Ansible, Terraform, Jenkins, GitLab CI.
  • Working knowledge of
    network concepts
    (TCP/IP, Load Balancing, DNS, Firewalls).
  • Excellent
    troubleshooting
