PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Patrols the expressway to detect and provide first response to incidents.
- Directly reports to the Traffic Operations Supervisor
- Patrols the expressway according to predefined circuits (sectors/ loops)
- Provides assistance to distressed motorists
- Reports any incident to the Traffic Control Room
- Responds to incidents and implements temporary signage and traffic management work
- Remove debris and obstacles on the carriageway
- Prepare corresponding reports per type of traffic incident or as per company policy.
DETAILS OF THE TASKS
- Act as Expressway Patrols
- Obtains a full working knowledge of the expressway structure, procedures, equipment, systems and facilities
- Actively monitors the expressway and responds to incidents that may be observed or reported by the Traffic Control Room.
- At all times the Patroller will be augmented by private contractors who will provide towing and mechanical repairs or emergency medical services
- Ensures that the expressway is safe and efficient and minimizes disruption to traffic by providing a rapid and effective response in the event of incidents affecting the expressway safety
- Provides a service to motorists including minor mechanical breakdowns and assistance in the event of an accident or incident
- Provides traffic management at traffic incidents to ensure the safety of the traveling public and "on-site" personnel. The Patroller will also liaise with on-site emergency services to ensure the incident is rectified efficiently and that any obstructions to traffic are moved as quickly as possible
- Provides the initial response to incidents along the expressway in accordance with procedures
- Coordinates with Asset Management Personnel "on-site" resources used in the clean-up operation of an incident
- Provides up to date information to the Traffic Control Room Operators concerning the traffic conditions on the Expressway
- Produces reports concerning the management of incidents, asset damage etc.
- Performs shift work on a regular basis as well as works alone. This position requires the incumbent to work outdoors in all types of weather and traffic conditions. This will involve working on the expressway regularly in emergency conditions.
- Accompanies contractor and/or visitors to the expressway; and
- Performs other duties as required.
Other Expectations of the job
- May be required to stay beyond shift hours until a qualified Patrol Officers/Crew becomes available;
- Required to care for and operate all assigned tools and equipment in a safe and proper manner;
- Required to maintain a clean, neat, and safe environment of the assigned workstation.
Minimum Requirements
- With an Active Valid Driver's License; can drive 4-wheel vehicle (manual and automatic)
- Graduate of ANY bachelor's degree. Criminology is ideal but not required.
