BSA TEACHER AIDE

The Teacher Aide provides support to the BSA classroom teacher in providing care and supervision of neurodivergent children with the guidance of the Elementary Teacher. The role focuses on assisting with daily classroom activities, preparing teacher-made resources and materials, ensuring student safety, and promoting an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the teachers in preparing and implementing learning materials tailored to neurodivergent students.
  • Reinforce instructions and support students in following routines and transitions.
  • Monitor and assist students with self-help skills (e.g., eating, toileting, grooming, mobility).
  • Support communication needs, including the use of visual aids.
  • Ensure a safe and supportive classroom environment by supervising children during their free play or structured activities.
  • Assist in maintaining classroom cleanliness, organization, and accessibility.
  • Report or write incident reports, if necessary.

Qualifications

  • At least Senior High School graduate (preferably with a strand in Education, Social Sciences, or Health).
  • College level or graduate of Education, Special Education (SPED), Psychology, Social Work, or related field is an advantage.

Experience:

  • Experience working with children, preferably in an educational or caregiving setting.
  • Prior exposure to children with special needs or neurodivergence is an advantage.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Compassion, patience, and genuine interest in supporting children with diverse learning needs.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively with teachers and therapists.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal, including active listening.
  • Basic knowledge of child development and communication levels.
  • Physically able to assist children with mobility and self-care tasks when necessary.

Other Requirements:

  • Willingness to undergo training on SPED strategies, first aid, and child safeguarding.
  • Demonstrates empathy, resilience, and adaptability in a dynamic learning environment.
