Your Role:

As a Senior Backend Developer, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and maintaining the server-side logic of our web-based application. You will be responsible for ensuring high performance, scalability, and seamless integration with third-party services. Your key responsibilities include:

  • Leading the design and implementation of backend architecture to meet scalability and performance requirements.

  • Developing, deploying, and maintaining server-side APIs and services.

  • Managing and optimising the PostgreSQL database, including schema design and query optimisation.

  • Integrating and managing third-party services, such as Microsoft Recognition Services and AWS for file storage.

  • Collaborating closely with frontend developers to ensure seamless integration between client and server-side functionalities.

  • Implement best practices for secure coding, data protection, and compliance.

  • Conducting code reviews and mentoring junior developers to uphold coding standards and foster professional growth.

  • Troubleshooting and debugging production issues, ensuring minimal downtime.

  • Staying up-to-date with the latest backend technologies and recommending improvements to enhance the platform.

What You Need:
Non-negotiables

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

  • 5+ years of professional experience in backend development.

  • Proficiency in backend programming languages, particularly Ruby on Rails.

  • Expertise in database management, particularly with PostgreSQL, including schema design and optimisation.

  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Heroku, AWS, or similar hosting environments.

  • Strong understanding of RESTful API design and implementation.

  • Familiarity with integrating AI/ML tools.

  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and deployment strategies.

  • Solid understanding of data security principles and compliance standards.

  • Proven experience in designing and maintaining scalable backend systems.

  • Successful track record of integrating third-party services and APIs.

  • Extensive experience with Ruby on Rails in production-grade applications.

  • Experience leading or mentoring teams in an Agile development environment.

  • Familiarity with tools like Jira and Git.
