Microbiologist

Duties and Responsibilities

I. Analytical Functions:

a. Works closely with the QA Manager and QA Supervisor.

b.Conducts air sampling and testing throughout the manufacturing areas.

c.Performs swab tests on primary packaging materials, food contact surfaces, and the hands of food handlers.

d.Evaluates the suitability for use of potentially damaged materials through microbiological testing.

e.Prepares trending reports to analyze and interpret microbiological results.

f.Develops technical reports upon request from the QA Manager.

g.Conducts troubleshooting and special tests as directed by the QA Manager.

II.Other Functions:

a.Liaises with external microbiological laboratories for specialized testing needs.

b.Supports training activities specific to the field of microbiology.

Educational Attainment : Preference is given to college graduates with a technical degree relevant to microbiological testing in food manufacturing (e.g., B.S. Microbiology, B.S. Biology Major in Microbiology, Food Technology). Non-allied science degrees may be considered with extensive hands-on training in microbiological testing and demonstrated proficiency.

Work Experience Required : A year of hands-on experience conducting basic microbiological tests (e.g., total plate count, yeast and mold count, coliform count, E. coli, personnel and equipment swabs, environmental testing, media preparation, sterilization, incubation, and plate counting) is preferred but not mandatory.
