Work from Home, Philippines SparkHorizon Full time ₱1,080,000 - ₱2,160,000 per year

Grid Connection & Power Systems Engineer – Renewables (Australian client)

We're hiring on behalf of a major Australian company that develops grid-scale solar and wind-projects.

You will work remotely from home in the Philippines.

This is a senior technical role, requires significant technical skill and experience in power systems modelling and grid connection studies.

Our client is expanding its in-house power systems and grid connections team to support the delivery of major renewable energy projects across Australia.

We are seeking a Grid Connections Engineer with strong technical depth, excellent analytical and modelling capabilities, and at least 5–7 years of professional experience in power system studies and generator performance standards.

You will work closely with the Australia-based engineers and project managers to deliver power system analysis, connection documentation, and modelling packages for grid connection and compliance.

Note: While you must have deep technical expertise in your field, no Australian experience is required, and training will be provided.

This is an exceptional opportunity to build your skills in a supportive, and deeply experienced technical environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and validate power system models (PSSE, PSCAD, or PowerFactory) for large-scale wind farms, battery energy storage systems (BESS), solar and hybrid renewable projects.
  • Conduct steady-state, dynamic, and transient stability studies, including fault ride-through, voltage control, and frequency response assessments.
  • Prepare and maintain Generator Performance Standards (GPS) submissions in accordance with Australian standards.
  • Interface with network providers and the regulator on technical queries, modelling updates, and validation results.
  • Contribute to EMT-level modelling, parameter tuning, and model verification against commissioning and hold-point testing data.
  • Support ongoing compliance monitoring and model maintenance during project operation.
  • Collaborate with internal and external design, protection, and SCADA teams to ensure coordinated technical outcomes.

Required Technical Competencies

  • Demonstrated expertise in PSSE or PSCAD, with proficiency in Python or FORTRAN scripting for model automation is an advantage.
  • Deep understanding of the connection process for renewables in any jurisdiction (e.g. Philippines)
  • Familiarity with PowerFactory or DIgSILENT RMS/EMT models is an advantage.
  • Sound grasp of control system theory, converter-based resource modelling (DFIG, PMSG, inverter controls), and protection coordination principles.
  • Experience preparing or reviewing EMT models for inverter-based resources (IBRs).
  • Ability to interpret single line diagrams, protection settings, and control philosophies in the context of grid integration.
  • Excellent written technical communication and documentation skills (reports, study notes, model validation documentation).

If you have most, but not all, of these requirements, you are still encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical or Power Systems Engineering.
  • Board passers only.
  • Strong academic background with a focus on power system analysis.
  • 5–10+ years of relevant experience in transmission-level grid connection studies for utility-scale wind, solar, or hybrid projects.

Preferred Background

Ideal candidates may have worked with:

  • Transmission or Distribution Network Service Providers (TNSP/DNSP) such as National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), MERALCO, or similar in other jurisdictions.
  • Global EPCs, OEMs, or consultancies with grid connection teams such as Siemens Gamesa, Vestas, Wood, GHD, Aurecon, SMEC, Worley, or DNV.
  • Independent Power Producers (IPPs) or renewable developers
