JOB SUMMARY

Under the direct supervision of the Head Librarian, the Digital Librarian develops and maintains the digital library systems, repositories, and services of the Lopez Museum and Library, to advance the use of / access to the digital collections for research and learning. 

JOB SCOPE

  1. Planning and Strategy

: Contribute to achieving LML's vision, mission, and strategic goals
2. Assist in the planning and implementation of library programs and projects, providing input to the lifecycle management of digital assets
3. Keeping abreast of new software and technologies developed in the library and archival communities including the utilization of artificial intelligence for the capture, description, and preservation of digitized objects, and making recommendations
4. Assist in the development of library systems and procedures
5. Coordinate and collaborate with relevant staff and departments in the planning and execution of activities
6. Collection Development, Management and Preservation

: Manage and maintain the digital library collection:
7. Scan/Digitize library materials, especially fragile and rare items, to add to the library's digital collection
8. Develop extensive metadata and indexing for the materials in the digital collection, ensuring proper cataloging and classification
9. Ensure the preservation, upkeep and safety of the library collections, maintaining an up-to-date electronic library system catalog
10. Provide initial assessment of library materials, especially the rare and fragile collections, that needs to be repaired before doing any scanning
11. Work closely with relevant staff and partners to ensure regular monitoring and timely maintenance/upkeep/upgrades of software, hardware, and other tools to ensure optimization of storage, capacity, performance, etc.
12. Develop digital projects that could strengthen and/or add to the library's existing collection and services
13. Develop standards and guidelines in the handling, storage, security and access to the digital collection
14. Library Services
15. Provide assistance to library users in the use and access of digital resources, platforms, etc.
16. Develop and promote the development and use of digital resources and related platforms such as the online public access catalog, web sites, reference sources, and online databases
17. Serve as the first point of contact for inquiries and requests about the library's digital/online collection and services, assisting researchers and educating them on its use
18. Assist in installing digital collection materials in tablets for use by researchers
19. Support and participate in digital developments, improvements, and deployments to ensure smooth uptake
20. Provide assistance and support to other LML projects and programs as needed
21. Administrative
22. Work collaboratively with other staff to understand the technology needs and processes of the library
23. Help in ensuring the reliable and effective operation of the Library's technical infrastructure
24. Prepares regular reports (strategic plans, progress reports, new  acquisitions, performance evaluations, condition reports, etc.) especially concerning the library's digital collection

  5. JOB SPECIFICATIONS

  6. EDUCATIONAL and PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  7. Degree in Library Science, Information Science, or relevant field
  8. Licensed librarian (PRC) as mandated by RA 9246
  9. EXPERIENCE
  10. Minimum of three (3) years experience working in a library or archival setting, especially in digital repositories and content management systems
  11. At least two (2) years experience in a relevant supervisory position, with project management experience with digital initiatives

  14. Comprehensive knowledge of the professional librarian and archival discipline, appropriate collection development principles and standards,  information and records management
  15. Knowledge regarding use of appropriate databases and online resources, as well as digital preservation standards and best practices
