Job Summary:

The Commissary Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the commissary, ensuring efficient inventory management, cost control, quality assurance, staff supervision, and compliance with safety and sanitation standards. This role requires strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills to maintain a smooth-running operation that meets customer and organizational expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all commissary operations including procurement, storage, production, and distribution of goods.
  • Manage inventory levels, conduct regular stock counts, and coordinate with suppliers to ensure product availability and freshness.
  • Supervise and schedule commissary staff; train team members on proper food handling, sanitation, and safety procedures.
  • Monitor financial performance including budgeting, cost control, and revenue tracking; recommend efficiency improvements.
  • Ensure compliance with health department regulations, company policies, and industry standards.
  • Maintain accurate records for inventory, food safety, employee training, and daily transactions.
  • Collaborate with other departments (e.g., kitchen, purchasing, logistics) to coordinate operations and meet service expectations.
  • Address and resolve customer and staff issues promptly and professionally.
  • Implement and monitor standard operating procedures (SOPs) for product handling, preparation, and distribution.
  • Perform regular audits and inspections to maintain operational excellence.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Engineering, Food Service Management, or related field preferred.
  • Experience: 3+ years in a supervisory or managerial role within food service, commissary, or retail operations.
  • Skills:
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Working knowledge of inventory and POS systems
  • Understanding of food safety standards and sanitation procedures
  • Leadership and team development skills

Work Environment:

  • Fast-paced environment, potentially including early mornings, nights, weekends, or holidays.
  • Standing for extended periods, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working in refrigerated or heated environments as needed.

Preferred Certifications (optional):

  • ServSafe Food Handler or Manager Certification
  • HACCP Certification
  • OSH/CPR/First Aid (depending on facility type)

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
