Job description

Job Overview:

The Cost Estimator Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring the financial and contractual success of construction projects. This position is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, managing budgets, and supporting project teams in delivering high-quality outcomes within financial and regulatory frameworks. The role requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate with clients, architects, and project managers.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • With Knowledge of construction industry practices, regulations, and standards
  • Proficiency in cost estimation and cost management techniques
  • Familiarity with service guidelines such as the National Building Code (NBC), ANSI/ASHRAE for HVAC, and LEED for green buildings
  • Knowledge of contract administration and legal aspects of construction projects
  • Understanding of general contracting, design-build, package contracting, value-based projects, loading margins, and lump sum contracts in commercial fit-out, residential, hotel, or retail projects
  • Experience with AutoCAD for validating quantities from drawings
  • Proficiency in relevant software and tools for quantity surveying

Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret client requirements and perform quantity take-offs based on marking and RCP drawings
  • Monitor and control project costs, ensuring efficiency and identifying cost-saving opportunities
  • Participate in pre-tender activities with clients, architects, and project managers; raise pre-bid queries as needed
  • Prepare initial quotes and contracts for the sales team
  • Coordinate with the design team to analyze architectural and service drawings
  • Manage valuation of completed work, including handling claims and variations
  • Prepare interim and final valuations, variations, and claims for construction sites
