Description of role:

The API Test Automation Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining automated test suites for backend services and APIs. This role will also involve evaluating system performance under varying loads and usage patterns. Additionally, the engineer will play a critical role in ensuring the performance and scalability of our systems, working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality, robust, and scalable solutions.

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO:


• Design, develop, and maintain automated test cases for RESTful APIs and backend services.


• Plan and execute performance, load, and stress testing to ensure system scalability and reliability.


• Identify, analyse, and document bugs and performance issues, and work with the development team to drive resolutions.


• Collaborate with developers, DevOps, and other QA engineers to integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.


• Monitor test coverage and maintain regression test suites to support frequent releases.


• Analyse test results and performance metrics to provide actionable insights and recommendations.


• Ensure test environments are properly set up and maintained for both functional and non-functional testing.


• Continuously evaluate and implement new tools, techniques, and best practices to enhance test automation and performance testing efforts.

YOU ARE LIKELY TO BE A GOOD FIT FOR THIS ROLE IF:


• You have strong experience with Postman for API automation and functional testing.


• You are skilled in using JMeter (or similar tools) for load and performance testing.


• You have a solid understanding of RESTful APIs, HTTP methods, and backend systems.


• You are proficient in scripting or programming languages such as JavaScript, Python, or Java.


• You have hands-on experience integrating test automation within CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI).


• You enjoy analysing performance metrics and optimizing system responsiveness and scalability.


• You are detail-oriented, analytical, and passionate about building reliable, high-quality software.


• You are comfortable working in a collaborative, cross-functional environment and can communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical team members.

DESIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS


• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.


• 2+ years of experience in QA automation, with a focus on API testing and backend services.


• Strong hands-on experience with Postman for API test automation.


• Proven experience with JMeter or similar tools for performance, load, and stress testing.


• Proficiency in JavaScript, Python, or Java for writing automated tests and scripts.


• Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, or GitHub Actions.


• Understanding of software testing methodologies, test lifecycle, and defect management.


• Solid grasp of HTTP protocols, REST architecture, and API standards.


• Experience with version control systems such as Git.


• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.


• Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments is a plus.


• ISTQB or similar certification is a plus (but not required).
