Role Description
Objective of the Role
The Estimator is responsible for providing accurate and timely cost estimates while collaborating with stakeholders to support effective project and asset management decisions. The role also involves optimizing estimating processes, maintaining system updates, and contributing to continuous improvement of the company's scoping and estimating framework.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Researching all relevant project details, review and evaluate requirements to provide pricing in a timely manner
- Detailed quantity take-off with Bluebeam and CostX or similar software, analysis of drawings, and preparing a Bill of Quantities
- Conducting Take-offs and calculating Bill of Quantities
- Preparation of estimates and submission of tenders
- Quoting various construction projects utilizing take-off estimating software & excel
- Preparing scope of works & work orders for subcontractors
- Sourcing & comparison of subcontractor & supplier quotes
- Update & maintain current pricing rates
- Assess and price contract variation orders
- Attending Tender Interviews with the Project Managers
- Participate in the consideration of concept designs with particular emphasis on costing, value for money solutions, alternative types of construction or structures and the identification of cost and time effective construction techniques.
- Evaluate/ review tender and estimating process for cost-effectiveness
- Be an active participant in strengthening continuous relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and consultants.
- Research market trends with respect to suppliers, product performance and service delivery models
- Researching the industry to identify better methods of estimating, to improve the quality, success rate of the business
- Plan and produce multiple estimates of varying size and complexity to ensure tenders are competitively priced and submitted on time.
- Build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the estimating function delivers high-quality outputs and efficient cost estimates.
- Provide prompt, reliable, and best-practice cost estimating to support the company's project portfolio across all stages, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Deliver expert costing advice, benchmarking, and reporting services to meet regulatory and business requirements.
- In collaboration with subject matter experts, develop strategies for optimal project delivery in the most cost-effective way, leveraging core competencies and exploring innovative processes and technologies.
- Review project cost reports, analyze past performance, and collaborate with teams to capture lessons learned and implement improvements in future estimating processes.
- Analyze and monitor estimating practices to drive continuous improvement and ensure adherence to company policies and procedures.
- Manage contract and price negotiations with vendors and suppliers to ensure the company secures the best possible value.
- Perform other related tasks and responsibilities as assigned by management or supervisors.

Qualifications:
- Minimum of
5 years experience in estimating within the construction sector - Minimum 2 years experience handling Australian Client
- Qualification in Building & Construction / Quantity Surveying or Trade Certificate
- Solid software experience qualified in
CostX, Bluebeam
or similar. - Fluent in Microsoft office suite and use of Cloud based systems
- Strong attention for detail and ability to problem-solve and think on your feet
- Onsite and or live project experience a preference but not mandatory
- Proven ability to tender on multiple projects simultaneously
- Able to work as an individual and work co-operatively as part of a team
- Must possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills with strong prioritization and organizational skills.
- Experience Estimating on tenders of up to $30 million AUD
