Position OverviewWe are seeking a skilled Refrigeration Technician to join our facilities management team to maintain and service commercial refrigeration systems in our cold storage facilities. This role is critical to ensuring optimal performance, energy efficiency, and compliance with temperature-controlled storage requirements.
Key ResponsibilitiesPreventive Maintenance
- Execute comprehensive preventive maintenance programs on industrial refrigeration systems
- Perform routine inspections, cleaning, and component replacements according to manufacturer specifications
- Maintain detailed maintenance schedules and ensure compliance with preventive maintenance protocols
- Conduct scheduled roving inspections of cold storage freezers and valve stations
- Monitor and document all required refrigeration system parameters
- Record and analyze storage temperatures using SCADA systems and analog gauge readings
- Track and report refrigeration power consumption and water usage metrics
- Maintain accurate records of all system parameters, temperatures, and performance data
- Document maintenance activities, repairs, and system anomalies
- Prepare detailed reports on system performance and recommendations for improvements
- Monitor and record water treatment parameters to ensure system efficiency
- Perform basic corrective maintenance on refrigeration equipment
- Diagnose and troubleshoot system malfunctions and performance issues
- Replace defective components and make necessary adjustments to optimize system performance
- Coordinate with external contractors and provide technical assistance during maintenance activities
- Assist client contractors during maintenance and repair activities
- Provide technical guidance and support to facility operations team
- Collaborate with engineering and facilities management teams on system improvements
Education & Certifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Technical degree or certification in HVAC/Refrigeration preferred
- EPA Section 608 Certification (Universal) required
- Additional refrigeration certifications preferred
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in commercial/industrial refrigeration systems
- Experience with ammonia or CO2 refrigeration systems preferred
- Knowledge of SCADA systems and building automation controls
- Experience in cold storage or food processing facilities preferred
- Proficient in refrigeration system diagnostics and repair
- Strong understanding of thermodynamics and refrigeration cycles
- Experience with electrical troubleshooting and motor controls
- Knowledge of water treatment systems and parameters
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail and documentation skills
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to safety protocols and regulatory compliance
- Ability to work in cold storage environments (-10°F to 35°F)
- Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds
- Comfortable working at heights and in confined spaces
- Manual dexterity for handling tools and equipment
- Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and emergency calls
- Cold storage facility environment with temperature variations
- May require overtime and emergency response availability
- Safety equipment and protective gear provided
- Exposure to refrigerants and industrial chemicals (with proper safety protocols)
