Automation Technician

Installs, maintains, and repairs automated systems and machinery, troubleshooting issues to ensure efficient and reliable production. Key responsibilities include the installation and testing of new automated equipment, performing regular diagnostics, and providing technical support to operators. This role requires a strong understanding of electrical, mechanical, and electronic systems, along with skills in programming languages like those used in PLCs and HMIs.
Key responsibilities
- Design and development: Design, develop, and maintain automated systems, which can include software, hardware, and control systems like PLCs and SCADA. This involves analyzing user requirements and developing functional specifications.
- Implementation and maintenance: Implement automated testing processes or physical automation systems, and provide ongoing maintenance and support.
- Project management: Plan, budget, and manage automation projects, often involving cross-functional teams and vendors. This includes supporting FAT, SAT, Commissioning & Validation protocols.
- Technical leadership and support: Lead technical teams, provide technical guidance to junior engineers, and serve as an escalation point for troubleshooting issues.
- Quality assurance: Collaborate with teams to ensure quality standards are met and identify and troubleshoot software defects.
- System optimization: Monitor system performance metrics and identify areas for enhancement and improvement.
Required qualifications and skills
- Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Experience: Typically requires 5+ years of experience in engineering or automation, with specific experience in process automation and control systems.
- Technical skills: Expertise in programming, scripting, automation frameworks, and system networks is essential. Experience with specific systems like PLCs, SCADA, motor control systems, and industrial networks is often required.
- Project management: Proven project management skills are critical for overseeing projects from conception to completion.
- Problem-solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are needed to troubleshoot complex issues.
- Soft skills: Excellent communication, coordination, and collaboration skills are necessary to work with various departments and teams.
