Purpose of the role

The DevOps Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining our AWS cloud infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines to enable secure, efficient, and cost-effective deployment of applications. This role serves as a critical bridge between development teams and production infrastructure, ensuring reliable deployments while maintaining robust security controls and optimizing cloud costs. The position requires translating complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders and proactively identifying infrastructure challenges before they impact operations.

  • Secure, well-architected AWS infrastructure built with Infrastructure as Code (CDK)

  • Proactive infrastructure management with SOC2 compliance, comprehensive monitoring, alerting, and reporting that identifies scaling needs and challenges before they impact operations
  • Clear communication of infrastructure status, projects, and technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholder

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, optimise, and maintain CI/CD pipelines using GitLab Cl
  • Develop, deploy, manage, and optimize AWS infrastructure using CDK including comprehensive monitoring, logging, and alerting for infrastructure health and application performance
  • Deploy, manage, and optimize AWS database services including RDS, Aurora for cost, availability, and security
  • Plan and test disaster recovery procedures, backup strategies, and define RTO/RPO requirements

Profile

An experienced DevOps engineer with 3-5 years of hands-on AWS experience who brings both deep technical expertise and excellent collaboration skills. They have a proven track record of building reliable CI/CD pipelines, optimizing cloud costs, and supporting development teams in fast-paced environments. This person thinks automation-first, approaches problems pragmatically, and maintains a strong security mindset in all decisions. They stay current with evolving AWS services and DevOps practices and can translate complex technical challenges into clear business recommendations. The successful candidate will be comfortable working collaboratively with developers while also engaging with executives and non-technical stakeholders, always keeping business objectives in focus alongside technical excellence.

Attributes

  • Strong hands-on experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) across compute, storage, networking, and security services with deployment and maintenance using CDK
  • Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation, ideally in GitLab CI but could be in similar product
  • Docker skills including image creation, optimization, multi-stage builds, and ECR registry management
  • Proficiency with Python for automation
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with attention to detail
