Job Description

Be part of our client's team as a Senior Software Engineer, contributing to the design, development, and continuous improvement of cloud-native platforms that support large-scale property valuation and advisory services. You'll work across microservices, APIs, and full-stack applications, applying strong engineering judgment to ensure solutions are secure, observable, and maintainable. This role also plays a key part in mentoring peers and reinforcing engineering best practices across squads.

The Qualifications We Seek

• Minimum of 5 years of commercial experience building and supporting systems in a microservices environment, including REST APIs, containerization, automated CI/CD pipelines, instrumentation, and cloud hosting on AWS and/or GCP
• Full-stack experience, covering both backend (microservices, APIs) and frontend development

Tools & Frameworks:

• Commercial, hands-on experience with Ruby, Ruby on Rails, Sinatra, , Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, Redis, Datadog, and MuleSoft

Other Qualifications

• Proven ability to deliver production-ready, maintainable code that is readable, self-documenting, tested, performant, and secure, in line with established engineering standards and senior-level expectations
• Strong understanding of testing strategies, including the appropriate use of unit, integration, and functional tests across the full change footprint
• Experience applying observability practices, using Datadog to monitor, diagnose, and debug platform stability and performance, with a proactive approach to incident prevention
• Security-first mindset, with experience writing secure code, managing dependencies, and adhering to CVE and security SLAs/SLOs
• Experience working within established architecture and design patterns, with the judgment to escalate, seek consensus, and document decisions when deviations are required
• Stable work history preferred, demonstrating sustained tenure and long-term impact in previous roles

• Demonstrated ability to deliver outcomes, navigate ambiguity, prioritize transparently, and coordinate effectively within a broader Engineering and Technology organization
• Experience coaching and mentoring engineers, contributing to squad capability and volunteering support as opportunities arise
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to proactively communicate upward, laterally, and downward-paired with active listening and collaboration

Your Daily Tasks

Core Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality implementations that are maintainable, readable, secure, and performant.
• Interpret and clarify requirements to develop functionality aligned with intended user outcomes.
• Recommend implementation options that support the desired results.
• Provide accurate development estimates, commit to timelines, and communicate variances or risks to the scrum master.
• Share knowledge, insights, and lessons learned across the squad and wider technology team.

• Demonstrate strong delivery capability by working through ambiguity, prioritizing effectively, and coordinating with Engineering and Tech teams to obtain needed information.
• Coach and mentor squad members and peers, proactively seeking and offering opportunities for growth.

Technical Competencies

• Deliver production-ready, maintainable code following engineering standards for readability, test coverage, performance, and security.
• Apply appropriate mixes of unit, integration, and functional tests to validate end-to-end changes.
• Use Datadog to monitor, diagnose, and improve platform stability and performance, proactively preventing issues.
• Uphold security best practices, monitor package integrity, and adhere to CVE SLOs.
• Follow existing architecture and design patterns, raising deviations for discussion and alignment.

Delivery & Planning

• Collaborate with cross-functional squads to understand the backlog, sprint priorities, and research or investigation items.
• Participate in effort estimation and commit to Sprint deliverables.
• Break down work into tasks no larger than 2-3 days, minimize parallel work, and aim for thin vertical slices.
• Raise concerns proactively regarding delivery risks or commitments.
