Container Yard Checker

Overview:

The Container Yard (CY) Checker is responsible for managing the acceptance and release of FCL (Full Container Load), LCL (Less-than-Container Load), Rolling Cargo (RC), and Breakbulk shipments at the Container Yard. This role ensures accurate inspection, proper documentation, and timely updating of system records. The ideal candidate has experience in container yard or terminal operations, demonstrates keen attention to detail, and upholds operational safety and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

Container and Cargo Management

• Facilitate the release of empty and laden inbound containers, and the acceptance of laden cargo at the CY.
• Conduct physical inspection of containers and prepare the corresponding Equipment Interchange Receipt (EIR).
• Handle acceptance and processing of LCL cargo, rolling cargo, and breakbulk.
• Measure and document cargo dimensions (length, width, height).
• Assist clients with shipping instruction forms (SI) and other cargo-related requirements.
• Validate cargo withdrawal prior to gate pass issuance for cargo stripped inside the CY.

Documentation and System Updates

• Update container movement entries in the system and ensure all containers have corresponding documentation.
• Validate Authority to Withdraw (ATW) issued by the Transport department prior to EIR issuance.
• Coordinate with Inbound Documentation and Inbound Customer Interaction Center (CIC) to ensure document completeness and payment validation before container release.
• Maintain and regularly update the CY Transactions Database and Nationwide Container Monitoring Report.

Reporting and Monitoring

• Prepare and submit key operational reports including:
• Nationwide Container Inventory Report
• CY Transactions Database
• Unwithdrawn Containers Report
• Unreturned Containers Report
• Container Repair Report
• CY Consumption Monitoring
• Monitor and report on unwithdrawn/unreturned containers and container repair status.
• Send out daily container inventory updates to Sales and Customer Service teams.

Coordination and Client Support

• Coordinate with service providers for container repairs and leasing.
• Liaise with Origin Ports on container damages and cargo claims.
• Assist customers, ensuring compliance with operational procedures and documentation requirements.
• Work closely with the Inbound and CIC teams for verification and resolution of discrepancies between bookings and actual client requests.

Administrative Support

• Facilitate payment requests for services related to security, container repairs, and leasing.
• Process business permit renewals.
• Prepare presentation materials for regular alignment meetings and operational briefings.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or vocational certification in Logistics, Maritime Operations, or a related field is preferred.
• Previous experience in container yard operations, terminal checking, or logistics is an advantage.
• Strong attention to detail with proven accuracy in inspections and documentation.
• Basic computer proficiency for data entry and terminal operating systems.
• Good communication and teamwork skills to collaborate across departments and with external stakeholders.
• Familiarity with container handling, shipping documentation, and safety protocols is a plus.
• Physically fit and capable of performing outdoor inspections in varying weather and terminal conditions.
• Commitment to safety and continuous operational improvement.
