What is the job

The Engineering Supervisor (Building Maintenance) is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the maintenance and repair of all facilities, machinery, and systems within the hotel property. This includes managing preventive maintenance schedules, supervising a team of technicians, ensuring safety standards are met, and ensuring smooth functioning of all building systems. The role involves leadership, technical expertise, and organizational skills to ensure that hotel operations are not disrupted by maintenance issues.

Your day to day

People

  • Promote efficiency, courtesy, and a high standard of professionalism within the engineering team.

  • Ensure effective communication and cooperation between the engineering department and other hotel departments.

  • Display a pleasant manner and positive attitude at all times, enhancing the hotel's image and fostering a harmonious working environment.

  • Support and mentor team members, developing their skills through training and feedback.

  • Lead by example, demonstrating high standards of work ethics, punctuality, and professional appearance.

Guest Experience

  • Ensure that all systems within the hotel are functioning optimally to avoid disruptions that might affect guest satisfaction.

  • Coordinate the timely and effective completion of maintenance tasks in guest areas, minimizing any inconvenience.

  • Monitor the functioning of HVAC systems, water systems, lighting, and other guest-facing systems to ensure they are operating at peak efficiency.

  • Address any engineering-related guest complaints promptly and professionally.

  • Communicate clearly with other departments to avoid interruptions to guest experience.

Financial

  • Assist in the preparation of the engineering department's budget, managing costs related to repairs, maintenance, and parts.

  • Ensure proper use of resources, minimizing waste and inefficiency.

  • Review maintenance invoices and ensure work is completed to specification before approving payments.

  • Maintain accurate maintenance records for all work performed, including repairs, preventive maintenance, and inspections.

Responsible business

  • Maintains professional business confidentiality

  • Adheres to company and property rules and regulations at all times

  • Demonstrates pride in the workplace and personal appearance at all times when representing the hotel thus identifying a high level of commitment

  • To observe the official working hours as stated in the contract however, it is understood that the team member may be required to work extended hours if the operation demands.

  • Management should also be able to reach the team member in emergency cases after the official working hours.

  • To be punctual for appointments at all times

Accountabilities

  • Regularly update the Chief Engineer or Engineering Manager on the status of maintenance issues, progress of projects, and any critical challenges.

  • Ensure that maintenance tasks are completed in a timely and cost-effective manner, minimizing downtime and operational disruptions.

  • Foster a positive, efficient work environment through teamwork, training, and clear communication.

  • Take ownership of all engineering-related responsibilities, ensuring that maintenance is carried out in accordance with established procedures and safety protocols.

  • Communicate and address any facility-related concerns raised by guests, staff, or management.

  • Be available for emergency maintenance requests as needed, including after-hours or during special events.

  • Emergency response: Possesses full knowledge of emergency procedures.

  • Equipment care: Ensures proper care and maintenance of equipment in the area of assignment.

  • Grooming and Hygiene: Adheres to specified hygiene and personal appearance standards of the hotel.

  • Green Engage awareness: Is fully aware of and complies with the hotel's green engage policy and established rules and reputations.

General Responsibilities

  • Keeps immediate superior promptly and fully informed of all problems or unusual matters of significance.

  • Performs all duties and responsibilities in a timely and efficient manner accordance with hotel policies and procedures.

What we need from you

  • A degree or diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or any equivalent technical qualification.

  • Proven experience (at least 5 years) in a supervisory engineering role within a hotel or similar hospitality setting (5-star or international chain hotel experience is a significant advantage).

  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and other relevant technical software.

  • Knowledge of building systems including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and safety systems.

  • Ability to supervise and coordinate a team of technicians and other staff members.

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.

  • Knowledge in budgeting, cost control, and value engineering.

  • Certification in Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) is essential; PCO (Professional Certification in Operations) is an added advantage.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work under pressure.

  • Plan and implement preventive maintenance schedules for all building systems, machinery, and equipment, ensuring that any issues are addressed before they impact operations.

  • Oversee and inspect facilities regularly to determine the necessary repairs and maintenance needs.

  • Supervise the work of the maintenance staff, ensuring high-quality standards and adherence to safety protocols.

  • Ensure all building systems, including the HVAC system, elevators, electrical systems, and plumbing, are in excellent working condition.

  • Monitor inventory levels of parts, tools, and equipment, ensuring that sufficient stock is maintained for smooth operations.

  • Participate in the coordination and execution of renovation or other engineering projects as needed (e.g., Clubhouse upgrades, system installations).

  • Coordinate the implementation and maintenance of critical safety systems including fire alarms (FDAS), fire suppression systems, kitchen fire systems, emergency evacuation systems, gas detectors, and more.

  • Conduct regular safety inspections and audits of all facilities, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.

  • Implement safety procedures and protocols related to building operations, particularly during maintenance tasks and emergency situations.

  • Lead emergency preparedness drills, including fire and evacuation drills, ensuring all team members are adequately trained.
