Pharmacist

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Dispensing of medicines for in-patient & out-patient.
• Renders medicines being requested by the NOD (nurse-on-duty).
• Prepares medication sheet per patient for unit drug dosing system.
• Prepares all the medicines for each patient for 24 hours consumption.
• Checks all medications given against the pharmacy medication sheet and informs the NOD (nurse-on-duty) regarding un-used medicines.
• Attends inquiries on matters related to drugs such as on available generic and dosage.
• Responsible in replacement of medicines used in operating room, emergency room & intensive care unit.
• Assists the Chief Pharmacist in recording in the Official Record Book.
• Checks the availability of medicines.
• Reports the low-level stocks to the head pharmacist.
• Spot checking of medicines against electronic stock card balance.
• Assists the Chief Pharmacist in requisition and recording of all medicines.
• Prepares emergency purchases for the day.
• Performs other task that maybe assigned by the superiors from time to time.
• Submits daily report of emergency purchased to the Hospital Administrator.
• Makes daily credit memo report returned to company.
• Does monthly inventory of medicines and check expiration date.
• Undertakes safekeeping of regulated drugs.
• Ensures validity and accuracy of prescriptions, double checks drug with prescription before issuing to patient or relative.
• Assists student interns of different school/university that have MOA (memorandum of agreement with our institution on their minor and major hospital internship.
• Attends CPE (continuing professional education) for professional growth.

JOB SPECIFICATION:

Education:

• Graduate of Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy with license to practice the profession in the Philippines issued by the PRC.

Trainings:

• Internship Manufacturing, Hospital, and Community Pharmacy

Skills:

• Good orientation of both English and Filipino language to interpret and understand written prescription, formularies, and reference texts, as well as for presenting data and information on pharmaceuticals to physicians, staff, and public. Able to understand the composition and properties of drugs, their manufacturer and uses, pharmacologic actions, and the procedures for testing their purity and strength.
• Has good arithmetic skills for measuring, weighing, and packaging drugs, computing charges for preparations, ad in making cash sales.
• Can interpret prescription format, to note physical or chemical changes in ingredients for prescriptions, and to interpret formularies.
• Has highly developed and effective communications skills and has the ability to work in a people-oriented focused environment.
• Has interest for scientific and technical activities to master techniques of prescription compounding, and in reading scientific and technical journals to keep abreast of new findings in the field.
• Ability to adapt precise and exacting activities in filing prescriptions where standards are well defined.
• Can adapt to activities requiring frequent changes in compounding prescriptions.
