Job Summary
The Canister Technician performs preventative and corrective maintenance on specialized containers. This role involves diagnosing mechanical and structural defects, performing necessary repairs (including welding), and ensuring strict compliance with all safety, environmental, and industry-specific regulations (e.g., OSHA, EPA). The technician is responsible for accurate documentation of all maintenance and inspection activities and may be required to operate heavy equipment like forklifts.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Inspection and Testing: Conduct routine visual and physical inspections and diagnostic tests on canisters to determine if repairs or retesting are required.
- Maintenance and Repair: Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on damaged container components, which may include structural damage, doors, panels, valves, and electrical or hydraulic systems, depending on the container type.
- Welding and Fabrication: Perform welding and fabrication duties as needed during repairs or parts assembly.
- Safe Handling and Operation: Safely handle, lift, load, and unload canisters, which may involve using load hoses, meters, gauges, and operating a forklift or other heavy equipment.
- Compliance and Documentation: Ensure all work is performed in compliance with company, local, state, and federal safety regulations. Complete and submit detailed work orders, inspection forms, and maintenance reports in a timely manner.
- Inventory Management: Manage the stock of replacement parts and supplies, requisitioning new parts as needed.
- Work Environment Maintenance: Maintain a clean and safe work area, free of debris or safety hazards.
