Role Overview

You'll own the end-to-end data engineering architecture and practices within company's Azure Fabric ecosystem.

Your mission is to define and enforce data standards, optimize performance and cost, and ensure the entire Medallion pipeline (Bronze → Silver → Gold → Power BI) is reliable, reusable, and scalable across products.

You'll mentor senior engineers, collaborate with analytics, DevOps, and product teams, and drive technical direction for the PH data engineering function.


Core Responsibilities

1. Platform Ownership

  • Define and own the Azure Fabric architecture for ingestion, transformation, and analytics delivery.
  • Design and maintain the Medallion framework standards — schema conventions, transformation patterns, and naming standards.
  • Establish versioning, monitoring, and recovery strategies for all pipelines.
  • Drive automation and CI/CD for data pipeline deployment.

2. Leadership & Mentorship

  • Provide technical leadership to a team of data engineers — guide solution design, review code, and resolve complex issues.
  • Partner with Product and Delivery leads to plan capacity, prioritize workloads, and align with business roadmaps.
  • Coach the team in best practices (data lineage, quality, observability).

3. Data Governance & Quality

  • Introduce data quality metrics and validation layers at each stage (Bronze, Silver, Gold).
  • Maintain consistency of metrics and definitions across all Power BI datasets.
  • Collaborate with security and infrastructure teams for access control, RLS, and data privacy compliance.

4. Analytics Enablement

  • Architect the semantic layer for Power BI — DAX models, data marts, and shared datasets.
  • Guide analysts and Power BI developers in performance tuning, modeling, and reusability.
  • Ensure business users can trust and interpret data consistently.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years in data engineering, including 2–3 years in a technical leadership role.
  • Deep expertise in Azure Fabric, Data Factory, Synapse, or equivalent cloud-native platforms.
  • Strong background in data modeling and Medallion architecture principles.
  • Excellent understanding of Power BI dataflows, dataset design, and embedded analytics.
  • Experience defining data governance, quality, and observability frameworks.
  • Proven track record in mentoring engineers and reviewing architecture decisions.
  • Skilled in SQL and one scripting language (Python, PySpark, or similar).
