Reports directly to the Chief Medical Technologist and supervises laboratory technician. Perform complex technical work involving human biological material. Steps are extensive and complex requiring manual manipulation, close monitoring and control, extensive calculations, plus careful and accurate work.

Key Responsibilities:

A. PLAN

  1. Stays abreast of new tests, new procedures, and new technology in the Medical

Technology field.

B. DO

  1. Conduct collection of specimen for testing using appropriate materials and techniques.

  2. Prepares specimen for analysis and reconstitute materials used for quality control

  3. Operate, calibrate and maintain equipment used in quantitative and qualitative analysis

  4. Weighs out chemicals and prepares reagents

  5. Perform chemical, hematological, serological, and microscopic tests using a variety of both standard and complicated laboratory instruments and equipment

  6. Perform drug testing procedures and programs following the government standards and requirements

  7. Conduct chemical analysis of body fluids, including blood and urine to determine presence of normal and abnormal components

  8. Cultivate, isolate and assist in identifying microbial organisms and perform various tests on these microorganisms

  9. Enter data from analysis of medical tests and clinical results into computer for storage

  10. Run quality control samples with known values to determine if test system is within acceptable limits

  11. Analyze laboratory findings to check the accuracy of the results of biological material for chemical content or reaction

  12. Performs other tasks which may be assigned from time to time.

  13. Logs in and out of reagents from stock card for inventory.

  14. Prepares daily census.

C. CHECK

  1. Establish and monitor programs to ensure the accuracy of laboratory results by:

· Checking specimen for proper labeling

· Assessing quality and appropriateness of specimen with regards to test requested

· Review and checks the laboratory results prior releasing.
