On Call Kitchen Steward

The On-Call Kitchen Steward ensures the cleanliness, organization, and sanitation of the kitchen and dishwashing areas on an as-needed basis. This role supports the kitchen team during busy periods, special events, staff shortages, or emergencies by maintaining a clean working environment and assisting with basic support tasks.

Key Responsibilities

• Wash dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and kitchen equipment using dish machines and manual washing as needed.
• Maintain cleanliness of dish areas, kitchen floors, walls, and work surfaces.
• Ensure all clean items are sanitized, dried, and properly stored in assigned locations.
• Empty and clean trash, recycling, and compost bins; transport waste to designated disposal areas.
• Assist with receiving deliveries and organizing storage areas, including dry storage, coolers, and freezers.
• Maintain the cleanliness of kitchen equipment such as ovens, steamers, grills, and fryers (as directed).
• Support kitchen staff by providing clean equipment and supplies in a timely manner.
• Follow all sanitation, safety, and hygiene procedures according to company and health department standards.
• Respond to last-minute requests for support and adapt to varying work environments.
• Perform other duties as assigned to ensure efficient kitchen operations.
• Ability to stand, walk, and move continuously for long periods.
• Work in hot, humid, or fast-paced environments.
• Frequent bending, reaching, and carrying.
• On-call, variable hours depending on operational needs.
• May include early mornings, late nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• Previous stewarding or kitchen experience preferred but not mandatory.
• Basic understanding of sanitation and workplace safety guidelines.
• Ability to follow instructions and work efficiently independently or within a team.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to accept on-call shifts with short notice.
• Strong attention to detail and cleanliness.
