I. PRIMARY PURPOSE
Steel erectors assemble the metal framework of new buildings or structures, by fitting together steel girders, pipework and beams. As a steel erector, you'd be working to detailed plans created by architects and engineers. Your work may often be carried out at height, from elevated platforms.
II. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Reviewing technical plans drawn by designers and engineers
• Planning project assembly
• Cutting, shaping and welding steel
• Operating hand and power tools
• Installing and fixing together steel girders, pipework and beam sections to make a steel framework
• Using elevated work platforms and scissor lifts
• Install scaffolding as work platforms
• Fixing safety netting and edge rails
• Lifting and guiding components into position with cranes
• Lining up and levelling steelwork before bolting it in place
• Working on-site, often at height.
• Collaborate with other construction professionals on-site
• Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition
• Report progress and issues to site supervisors
