Responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in a commercial kitchen environment, ensuring all equipment, utensils, and work areas are clean and ready for use. They handle tasks such as washing dishes, emptying trash, restocking supplies, and assisting kitchen staff with various duties.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Dishwashing: Washing dishes, pots, pans, and kitchen utensils using dishwashers and by hand.
  • Cleaning: Cleaning kitchen surfaces, floors, and equipment, including stoves, ovens, and refrigerators.
  • Sanitation: Maintaining high standards of hygiene and sanitation throughout the kitchen.
  • Waste Management: Properly disposing of kitchen waste and recyclables.
  • Restocking: Ensuring adequate supplies of cleaning materials, disposables, and other kitchen essentials.
  • Assisting Staff: Providing support to chefs and other kitchen personnel with various tasks as needed.
  • Maintaining Equipment: Ensuring all kitchen equipment is clean and in good working order.
  • Following Safety Procedures: Adhering to safety guidelines and procedures when operating equipment and handling chemicals.
  • Inventory Management: Keeping track of inventory and reporting shortages.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Physical Stamina: The job requires physical endurance due to the repetitive and sometimes demanding nature of the tasks.
  • Attention to Detail: A keen eye for detail is necessary for maintaining cleanliness and identifying potential hazards.
  • Organizational Skills: Effective organization is crucial for maintaining a tidy and efficient workspace.
  • Ability to Follow Instructions: Adhering to established procedures and guidelines is essential.
  • Teamwork: Kitchen Stewards often work as part of a team and need to be able to collaborate effectively.
  • Basic Knowledge of Cleaning and Sanitation: Understanding basic cleaning and sanitation principles is important.
  • Experience with Dishwashers: Familiarity with operating commercial dishwashers is often required.
