Role Overview:

The Global Tolling Manager is responsible for overseeing and optimizing tolling operations across multiple international sites. This role ensures efficient contract manufacturing (tolling) partnerships, manages supply chain integration, and drives performance in alignment with corporate goals. The manager acts as a key liaison between internal stakeholders and external tolling partners to ensure quality, compliance, and profitability.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Strategy & Governance

  2. Develop a tolling roadmap aligned with Global Business Unit strategy.

  3. Guide "make vs buy" scenarios with business case analysis.
  4. Establish governance for toller selection, performance, and exit.
  5. Standardize tolling policies across regions for consistency.

  6. Identification & Onboarding

  7. Scout and assess tolling partners globally based on strategic fit.

  8. Lead qualification with cross-functional teams (Quality, Legal, Procurement).
  9. Negotiate contracts covering pricing, confidentiality, and IP.
  10. Ensure smooth onboarding into operational and digital systems.

  11. Tolling Operations & Partner Management

  12. Lead global tolling workflows to ensure consistent production, quality, and inventory control.

  13. Align production schedules with demand forecasts and manage replenishment to avoid supply disruptions.
  14. Monitor key performance indicators (e.g., OTIF, yield, cost, compliance) and drive continuous improvement initiatives like lean practices and automation.
  15. Maintain strong vendor relationships through regular performance reviews, innovation collaboration, and issue resolution.
  16. Serve as the primary point of contact for escalations and conflict resolution.

  17. Supply Chain & Logistics Coordination

  18. Align tolling schedules with inbound material availability and outbound distribution plans.

  19. Coordinate with global logistics teams to ensure timely shipment of finished goods from tolling sites.
  20. Implement lean warehousing practices and optimize inventory turnover ratios.
  21. Collaborate on demand planning and S&OP processes to ensure tolling capacity meets market needs.

  22. Financial Oversight

  23. Develop and manage tolling cost models, including labor, materials, overhead, and logistics.

  24. Analyze cost variances and identify root causes for inefficiencies or overspending.
  25. Benchmark tolling costs across geographies to identify best practices and cost-saving opportunities.

  26. Compliance & Quality Assurance

  27. Ensure tollers meet global regulatory and quality standards.

  28. Partner with QA for audits and corrective actions.
  29. Embed traceability and sustainability into tolling operations.
  30. Map risks and implement mitigation or dual-sourcing plans.

  31. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  32. Procurement: Align sourcing strategies and contract negotiations.

  33. Quality: Partner on compliance, audits, and certifications.
  34. R&D/Technical: Ensure tollers can scale new product launches and innovations.
  35. Supply & Demand Planning: Align volume forecasts and manage production planning.
  36. Logistics: Coordinate freight, warehousing, and global distribution requirements.
  37. Legal: Support in contract structuring, compliance, and risk management.

Other Accountabilities:

  • Accountable for: Selection, performance management, and termination of tolling partners.
  • Consulted on: Regional manufacturing strategies, innovation launches, long-term capacity planning.
  • Decides on: Tolling contracts, SLAs, and operational terms within approved budget.
  • Escalates: Strategic tolling footprint changes, major capital investment needs, or high-risk compliance issues.

Qualifications & Skills:

Education: Bachelor's degree in supply chain, Business, Engineering, or related courses, MBA an advantage.

Experience:

  • 8–12 years in global supply chain/manufacturing, with at least 3–5 years in tolling/contract manufacturing.
  • Strong exposure to FMCG/CPG, food, or pharmaceutical industries.
  • Proven track record in vendor negotiations and international supplier management.

Technical Competencies:

  • Supply planning, procurement, and cost modeling.
  • Regulatory and compliance knowledge across multiple regions.
  • ERP systems proficiency (SAP, Oracle, etc.).
  • Leadership Competencies:
  • Influencing across geographies and cultures.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and negotiation skills.
  • Analytical, problem-solving, and project leadership abilities.
