ASSIGNMENT:

  • 12 months, full time (project)
  • Reporting schedule: Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM
  • Reporting office: Pryce Towers, Davao City
  • Start of services: ASAP

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering
  • At least five (5) years of general working experience
  • At least one (1) land transportation project in related field

PREFERRED/DESIRABLE:

  • A valid license as a Professional Geotechnical Engineer in the Philippines
  • Responsibilities: conducting subsurface investigations, preparing geotechnical reports, providing foundation design input
  • Scope of services: site assessment, soil investigations, laboratory testing
  • Deliverables: reports, electronic files, and adherence to Philippine codes and standards (DPWH guidelines, National Building Code)
  • Outline project context, specific deliverables, and contract duration, often requiring detailed record-keeping and submission of findings to relevant government agencies like DPWH, DOTr, among others
  • Experience working in infrastructure-related projects
  • Prior involvement in Official Development Assistance (ODA) projects (e.g., JICA, ADB, World Bank)
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment or with foreign consultants/staff using English as a working language
  • Knowledge of donor reporting requirements and procedures is an advantage

DETAILED TASKS ASSIGNED:

  • Assist in planning and supervising geotechnical site investigations, including borehole drilling, sampling, and in-site testing.
  • Analyze soil and rock data to assess site conditions, bearing capacity, slope stability, and potential geohazards.
  • Provide recommendations for foundation types and designs suitable for transport infrastructure.
  • Evaluate risks related to settlement, liquefaction, erosion, and other ground-related issues.
  • Support the review of geotechnical aspects in design documents and construction plans to ensure compliance with engineering standards.
  • Conduct site inspections to monitor groundworks, earthworks, foundation construction, and ensure adherence to geotechnical specifications.
  • Assess and provide recommendations on slope design, retaining structures, and cut-and-fill operations.
  • Prepare geotechnical reports, soil profiles, and contribute to design briefs, construction logs, and risk assessments.
  • Work closely with structural, civil, and transport engineers to ensure geotechnical inputs are well-integrated in the overall design.
  • Assist in meeting geotechnical requirements for local and national permitting processes and environmental compliance.
