Fashion Designer Job Responsibilities:

  • Study fashion trends and anticipate designs that will appeal to consumers.
  • Decide on a theme for a collection.
  • Knowledge of computer-aided design programs (CAD) to create designs. Visit manufacturers or trade shows to get fabric samples. Select fabrics, embellishments, colors, or style for each garment or accessoryWork with other designers or team members to create a prototype design.
  • Present design ideas to the creative director or showcase them in fashion or trade shows.
  • Market designs to clothing retailers or directly to consumers.
  • Oversee the final production of their designs. Confer with sales and management executives or with clients in order to discuss design ideas.
  • Direct and coordinate workers involved in drawing and cutting patterns and constructing samples or finished garments. Identify target markets for designs, looking at different factors.
  • Provide sample garments to agents and sales representatives, and arrange for showings of sample garments at sales meetings or fashion shows.
  • Attend fashion shows and review garment magazines and manuals in order to gather information about fashion trends and consumer preferences.
  • Examine sample garments on and off models; then modify designs to achieve desired effects.
  • Select materials and production techniques to be used for products.
  • Sketch rough and detailed drawings of apparel or accessories, and write specifications such as color schemes, construction, material types, and accessory requirements.
  • Adapt other designers' ideas for the mass market. Collaborate with other designers to coordinate special products and designs.

Fashion Designer Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design, Textile Design, Fashion Merchandising, or a related field. Fresh Graduates are welcome to apply.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience as Fashion Designer
  • Experienced in managing either ladies' or men's apparel collections.
  • With Portfolio available
  • Adeptness with leading design software packages (Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop etc.)
  • A person passionate about fashion
  • A background of working as part of a design team
  • Good organizational skills that support the rest of the team
  • The motivation to maintain and improve design standards
