OR/DR Nurse

In addition to general nursing care, responsibilities of Staff Nurses include (but are not limited to):

· Consults and coordinates with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans

· Takes and monitors patients' vital signs

· Provides basic, bedside care

· Prepares and administers (orally, subcutaneously, through an IV) and records prescribed medications. Reports adverse reactions to medications or treatments in

accordance with the policy regarding the administration of medications by a licensed registered nurse

· Responds to life-saving situations based upon nursing standards and protocol

· Records all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format  and on the appropriate forms

· Monitors patients' physical and emotional well-being throughout the care continuum

· Initiates patient education plan, as prescribed by physician. Teaches patients and significant others how to manage their post-treatment home care needs, self-administration of medication and rehabilitation

· Performs other position-related duties as assigned, depending on assignment setting

Assessment:

· Establishes rapport

· Obtain nursing history

· Performs physical assessment

· Identifies subjective and objective problems of the patients

· Detects abnormalities from the assessment and results of diagnostic examinations and reports.

· Establishes nursing diagnosis.

Planning:

· Prioritizes needs/problems of patients

· Formulates nursing care plans

Ø  Defines objectives of nursing care

Ø  Develops alternatives

Implementation:

· Carries out plan of care

· Administers prescribed medications

· Administers prescribed treatment

· Gives health teachings to patients

· Conducts ward classes

· Provides social, emotional-psychological and spiritual support

· Maintains a therapeutic environment

Evaluation:

· Evaluates effects of nursing.

· Notifies immediate superiors of unusual, untoward difficult situations/conditions.

· Revises plan of care as necessary.

Recording:

· Records assessment, interventions and evaluation of nursing care.

Must be willing to be assigned in the OR/DR department as Staff Nurse.
