School Nurse

Educational Qualification: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

License/Certification: Must be a Registered Nurse (RN) with a valid PRC License

Work Experience:

• Previous experience in a school clinic or pediatric healthcare setting (preferred)
• Practical experience in First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Familiarity with Child Protection protocols
• Knowledge of Health Risk Management and Mental Health First Aid

Skills and Competencies:

• Ability to remain calm, decisive, and responsible during medical emergencies
• Proficiency in medical record-keeping and documentation
• Effective communication with parents, guardians, teachers, and health authorities
• Strong organizational skills in implementing health protocols and school health programs
• Empathy, patience, and emotional regulation under pressure

Role Summary:

The School Nurse is responsible for safeguarding the physical and mental health of students, faculty, and staff by providing direct medical care, monitoring health concerns, and promoting a safe and healthy school environment. The role involves administering first aid and emergency treatment, maintaining student health records, implementing health and safety protocols, and coordinating with families and external health agencies to support the well-being of the school community.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Health Care & First Aid

2. Provide immediate medical attention, first aid, and emergency care for injuries or illnesses within the school.

3. Administer prescribed medications to students in accordance with proper authorization.

4. Monitor students with chronic conditions and ensure proper care plans are in place.

5. Health Monitoring & Records

6. Maintain accurate and confidential health records for all students.

7. Monitor and report incidences of illness, contagious diseases, and other health concerns.

8. Track immunization and health compliance requirements.

9. Preventative Health & Safety

10. Implement and monitor health and safety protocols across the school.

11. Conduct regular health screenings and promote wellness programs.

12. Educate students and staff on hygiene, nutrition, and preventative health practices.

13. Coordination & Communication

14. Serve as the primary point of contact for parents/guardians regarding student health concerns.

15. Coordinate with teachers, administrators, and local health authorities on health-related matters.

16. Refer students and staff to appropriate medical professionals when necessary.

17. Crisis & Risk Management

18. Respond effectively to health-related emergencies and potential health risks in the school.

19. Support the school's child protection, mental health, and wellness initiatives.
20. Assist in emergency preparedness and participate in school safety drills.
