As a Software Engineer – Big Data at EROAD, you will be part of a collaborative agile team delivering

cloud-native, data-driven solutions that power customer-facing analytics and insights. You will leverage your expertise in big data platforms, software engineering, and cloud architecture to design and build scalable infrastructure, pipelines, and APIs.

You will work closely with product managers and cross-functional teams to translate requirements intorobust, secure, and performant solutions. Depending on your level of experience, you may also lead technical design discussions, mentor junior engineers, and drive adoption of engineering best practices across the team.

Job Responsibilities:

Data Engineering and Infrastructure

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable ingestion, transformation, and delivery pipelines for

streaming, batch, and API-based data sources.

  • Assemble and optimise large, complex datasets for scalability, performance, security, and cost

efficiency.

  • Build reusable, decoupled components that accelerate development and promote maintainability.
  • Develop and manage cloud infrastructure (primarily AWS, expanding into Azure and Snowflake)

using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform).

Software Development and APIs

  • Design and implement RESTful APIs and event-driven services to enable access to analytics and

insights.

  • Apply cloud-native and microservices design patterns to deliver scalable and secure solutions.
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions) for automated testing, deployment, and monitoring.
  • Ensure solutions align with architectural patterns, engineering standards, and compliance

requirements.

Quality, Operations, and Documentation

  • Monitor and troubleshoot production systems in partnership with Operations/SRE teams to

ensure resilience and meet SLAs.

  • Write clear, maintainable technical documentation for knowledge sharing.
  • Contribute to sprint planning by breaking down, estimating, and delivering development

outcomes.

  • For senior roles: drive design discussions, champion best practices, and mentor junior team

members.

Job Qualifications:

  • 3+ years' experience in software or data engineering.
  • Experience designing and deploying cloud-native applications and data pipelines in a

microservices architecture.

  • Hands-on experience with Docker and container orchestration (EKS, ECS, or AKS).
  • Proficiency with ETL/ELT pipelines and big data services/frameworks (e.g., Kinesis, Kafka, Glue,

Flink, Lambda, Azure Data Factory).

  • Strong SQL (ANSI/T-SQL) skills with experience in query optimisation and handling multiple data

formats.

  • Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) experience for cloud resource automation.
  • Experience developing RESTful APIs (OpenAPI/Swagger).
  • Knowledge of non-functional requirements (scalability, security, observability, cost optimisation).
  • Familiarity with automated testing (unit, integration, component) using tools such as JUnit, T

estNG, Mockito, or dbt tests.

  • Experience with Git-based workflows and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Analytical and detail-oriented: Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to data

quality, governance, and compliance.

  • Collaborative and growth-focused: Effective communicator across technical and non-technical

teams, passionate about continuous learning, innovation, and thriving in an agile environment.

BONUS skills

  • Exposure to multi-cloud environments (Azure, Snowflake).
  • Strong background in Java (Python or Scala is a bonus)
  • Experience with dbt, Apache Iceberg, or Snowflake.
  • Front-end JavaScript skills (React/Redux).
  • For senior roles: leadership in design, architecture, and mentoring.
