Job Summary:

The Telecommunications Tower Technician is responsible for the installation, wiring, maintenance, and repair of telecommunication towers and related equipment. This role requires working at heights, ensuring proper signal transmission, and maintaining the safety and integrity of communication systems. The position involves frequent fieldwork, travel to various sites, and adherence to strict safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, maintain, and repair antennas, radios, cables, and other telecommunications equipment on towers, rooftops, and other structures.
  • Perform wiring, grounding, and cabling tasks according to industry standards.
  • Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure tower and equipment reliability.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues related to network and signal performance.
  • Operate and maintain tools, climbing gear, and safety equipment.
  • Document work performed, materials used, and test results.
  • Ensure compliance with company, industry, and safety regulations at all times.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and other field technicians to meet installation and service deadlines.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical training in electronics, telecommunications, or related field preferred.
  • Proven experience in tower climbing, telecom installation, or related field work.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications wiring, equipment installation, and maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to read technical diagrams, wiring schematics, and site plans.
  • Physical fitness and ability to work at heights in various weather conditions.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Valid driver's license; willingness to travel for work assignments.
  • Certification in tower climbing and rescue (e.g., ComTrain, NATE) preferred.

Work Conditions:

  • Field-based role with frequent travel.
  • Work at heights of up to several hundred feet.
  • Exposure to varying weather conditions.
  • Requires use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to safety protocols.
