Avionics Technician Lead, MQ-9

The MQ-9 Avionics Technician Lead is a highly qualified and skilled aircraft electronics and Ground Control Station (GCS) technician with experience in troubleshooting multiple electronics systems both aircraft and control stations. They will directly support the USMC MQ-9 Site Manager by leading, performing, and inspecting organizational level maintenance while at the same time being available to support hands-on maintenance and leadership/training on an as needed basis. They will be part of a Deployment Pool and will support deployments to various CONUS/OCONUS locations, as required. This position will require the member to be flexible in the support of assigned deployment/work schedules.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Exercise independent judgment and lead a team of avionics technicians to complete daily aircraft maintenance tasks based on priorities set by their assigned supervisor.
- This position requires an individual that can apply expert technical knowledge to solve complex problems by interpreting technical publications, manufacturers' manuals/instructions or similar documents through the usage of test equipment/instruments to affect repairs.
- Performs all daily launch/recovery duties in support of operational requirements.
- Maintain assigned MQ-9 aircraft electrical generators, load banks, starters, relays, batteries, actuators, circuit breakers, switches, and aircraft instruments.
- Apply advanced technical knowledge to solve complex problems that typically cannot be solved solely by referencing manufacturers' manuals or similar documents. Examples of such problems include determining the location and density of circuitry, evaluating electromagnetic radiation, isolating malfunctions, and incorporating engineering changes.
- Work typically requires an understanding of the interrelationships of circuits, exercising independent judgment in performing such tasks as making circuit analyses, calculating wave forms, and tracing relationships in signal flow, using complex test instruments such as high frequency pulse generators, frequency synthesizers, distortion analyzers, and complex computer control equipment.
- Make entries in aircraft logs and records, attend shift change maintenance meetings, perform as a QA, and is responsible for providing guidance and technical expertise to lower-level technicians throughout all aircraft modifications and/or maintenance efforts.
- Apply advanced technical knowledge to solve unusually complex problems that affect operational and maintenance capabilities.
- Use common and complex test instruments in the performance of assigned duties.
- Provides training to lower-level avionic technicians.
- Sign off work in either NALCOMIS/OOMA or IMDS.
- Maintain, repair, and install various types of electronic equipment and related devices.
- Apply advanced technical knowledge of electronics principles in determining malfunctions and apply skill in restoring equipment operations.
- Recommend revisions to maintenance procedures to improve efficiency and ensure quality workmanship.
- Able to work without direct supervision.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
- Active Secret US Government Clearance within the last 12 months. Note: US Citizenship is required to obtain a Secret Clearance.
- High School Diploma or have completed relevant military and/or vocational technical school curriculum.
- Eight (8) years of actual Aircraft Avionics and/or GCS maintenance experience required.
- Three (3) years of experience on MQ-9 Aircraft and/or GCS, as an Avionics Technician.
- Advanced knowledge of basic and complex mechanical maintenance and repair.
- Advanced knowledge of technical publications related to aircraft mechanical maintenance.
- Comprehensive knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting/repair procedures and replacement of components, a thorough knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modification and repair and the ability to determine functionality of non-complex electrical systems.
- Know theory and principles of operation of engines, accessories and components, theory of flight and electronic flight controls, and have an advanced understanding of applicable systems.
- Have been designated a CDI or Red-X inspector for MQ-9 aircraft.
- Able to inspect and operate ground support and auxiliary equipment.
- Have knowledge of CNAFINST NAMP and/or DAFI
- Achieve a passing grade in all required courses/certifications for continued employment, as needed.
- Able to lift, carry and/or wear Military Issued Equipment in excess of 50 pounds for extended periods.
- Able to speak, read, write, and understand English.
- Current/active State Issued Driver's License.
- Able to acquire and maintain a valid flight-line Government Driver's License.
- Able to travel on CONUS/OCONUS deployments.
- Meet all OCONUS deployment criteria, to include pre-deployment medical screening, as a condition of employment.
- Have a valid U.S. Passport with a minimum of two years remaining with at least two facing pairs (four total) of blank Visa pages.
- Prior experience supervising small teams in completing daily tasks.
- MQ-9 Avionics Technician experience within the last two (2) years.
- At least one (1) year of experience on both MQ-9 Aircraft and GCS, as an Avionics Technician.
- Associate degree in a relevant career field.
- Current IAT Level II Certification.
- Deployment experience.
- Prior experience as a Defense Contractor.
