Respiratory Therapist

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Respiratory Therapy or related medical field.
• Valid professional license/board certification as a Respiratory Therapist.
• Experience in clinical or hospital setting preferred.
• Strong knowledge of respiratory equipment, procedures, and safety protocols.
• Excellent communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Interview and examine patients to assess cardiopulmonary status and breathing difficulties.
• Consult with physicians and nurses to develop individualized treatment plans.
• Monitor and record patients' physiological responses to therapy, such as vital signs and blood gas results, and recommend changes to treatment.
• Administer prescribed treatments, including aerosol medications (nebulizers/inhalers) and medical gas therapy (e.g., oxygen).
• Perform airway clearance techniques, such as Chest Physiotherapy (CPT) and suctioning, to remove lung secretions.
• Initiate, adjust, and maintain mechanical ventilators and other life support equipment in critical care settings.
• Provide emergency respiratory care, including assisting with intubation, external cardiac massage, and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
• Participate as a member of the Code Team/Rapid Response Team for patients experiencing acute respiratory distress.
• Inspect, clean, calibrate, and troubleshoot complex respiratory equipment.
• Educate patients and families on the proper use of home respiratory equipment, self-management of chronic conditions (like asthma or COPD), and smoking cessation.
