Key Responsibilities:

  • Designing and Implementing Secure Platforms: This involves collaborating with development and operations teams to design and implement secure infrastructure.

  • Vulnerability Management and Patching: Assessing, and remediating vulnerabilities across all platforms. This involves conducting regular vulnerability scans, analyzing scan results, and coordinating with relevant teams to ensure timely patching and configuration hardening. 

  • Security Monitoring and Incident Response Support: In the event of a security incident, they may assist in forensic analysis, containment, and eradication efforts by providing deep technical insights into the platform's architecture.

  • Cloud Security Expertise: Security Platform Engineers specialize in securing cloud environments (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP). This involves implementing cloud security best practices, configuring cloud-native security services, managing identity and access management (IAM) within the cloud, and ensuring compliance with cloud security frameworks.

  • Collaboration and Knowledge Sharing: Security Platform Engineers work closely with various teams, including developers, operations engineers, architects, and security analysts. They act as security advocates, providing guidance, training, and sharing their expertise to foster a security-conscious culture across the organization. They also stay up-to-date with the latest security threats, vulnerabilities, and technologies.

  • Performance and Scalability: Ensuring that security controls are implemented in a way that does not negatively impact system performance or scalability is also a key consideration. They design and implement solutions that are both secure and efficient, often leveraging distributed systems and cloud-native architectures.
