Job Summary:
The Quantitative Surveyor supports effective cost management and audit functions within projects, ensuring that all financial aspects are handled efficiently and in alignment with project goals. Reporting to the Cost and Audit Manager, the Quantitative Surveyor will focus on cost estimation, budgeting, and financial auditing for projects from inception to completion. This role includes working closely with the project team to control expenses, manage contracts, and provide insights for financial decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
Cost Estimation and Budget Preparation
Develop comprehensive cost estimates and budgets for construction and engineering projects.
Work with project teams to prepare preliminary budgets based on design specifications, materials, and labor requirements.
Conduct feasibility studies to assess project profitability and financial impact.
Audit and Cost Control
Conduct regular audits on project budgets and expenditures, ensuring alignment with approved budgets.
Identify variances, potential overruns, and discrepancies in project spending, providing reports and corrective recommendations to the Cost and Audit Manager.
Ensure all cost data, including receipts, invoices, and reports, are accurately maintained for audit purposes.
Contract Administration
Support the preparation of tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities and cost projections.
Assist in the evaluation of tenders, advising on selection based on cost-effectiveness and alignment with project specifications.
Monitor contractual compliance, tracking deliverables and milestones to ensure financial accountability.
Risk Assessment and Financial Planning
Identify and analyze financial risks associated with projects, proposing solutions to minimize cost implications.
Perform value engineering exercises to suggest alternative materials or methods that reduce costs while maintaining quality.
Prepare financial forecasts, advising the Cost and Audit Manager on potential cost savings and value-added initiatives.
Reporting and Documentation
Produce detailed reports on project cost status, including weekly and monthly updates on budget utilization and audit findings.
Maintain comprehensive records of all cost-related documents for reference, auditing, and project closeout purposes.
Collaborate with project stakeholders to communicate cost-related issues and ensure transparency in financial management.
Stakeholder Collaboration and Communication
Work closely with project managers, contractors, and procurement teams to ensure alignment with project budgets and financial objectives.
Provide insights and recommendations to the Cost and Audit Manager on cost control practices, improving financial efficiency.
Act as a point of contact for cost-related queries from internal and external stakeholders, ensuring clarity and adherence to financial goals.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Finance, or a related field.
Certification: Certification in Quantity Surveying or relevant field (e.g., RICS) is an advantage.
Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a quantitative surveying or cost control role within construction, engineering, or a related industry.
Skills:
Strong analytical skills and proficiency in cost estimation, budgeting, and financial reporting.
Familiarity with cost management software and audit practices.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines.
Solid communication and negotiation skills to liaise with contractors and internal teams.
Knowledge of construction and engineering industry standards and relevant local regulations.
Working Conditions:
Primarily based in the office with occasional site visits for audit and cost assessment purposes.
Requires flexibility in working hours to meet project deadlines and financial reporting schedules.
