The
Maximo Subject Matter Expert (SME)
will be a critical member of our asset management team, responsible for optimizing the utilization and effectiveness of our IBM Maximo Application Suite (MAS) across our power generation facilities. This role requires deep expertise in Maximo functionality, the Maximo Integration Framework (MIF), and best practices in Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) within the power generation industry. The Maximo SME will translate complex business requirements into technical solutions, support system configuration, enhance integration capabilities, provide comprehensive user training, and drive process improvement and data integrity to ensure Maximo effectively drives efficiency, reduces downtime, and extends the lifespan of our critical assets.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maximo Application Suite (MAS) Expertise:
Serve as the primary internal expert on the IBM Maximo Application Suite, including core applications like Maximo Manage (formerly Maximo Asset Management), Maximo Health, Maximo Predict, Maximo Monitor, and other relevant MAS applications (e.g., Maximo Visual Inspection, Maximo Assist, Maximo Optimizer) within a power generation context. - Maximo Integration Framework (MIF) Mastery:
Design, implement, and manage robust integrations using the Maximo Integration Framework (MIF). This includes configuring object structures, enterprise services, publish channels, external systems, and endpoints using various communication modes (e.g., REST API, JMS queues, web services, flat files, interface tables). - Integration Strategy & Optimization:
Develop and execute integration strategies for connecting Maximo with critical power generation systems such as SCADA/DCS, ERP (e.g., SAP, Oracle), GIS, historian systems, and other operational technology (OT) platforms, ensuring seamless data flow and real-time insights. - Business Process Optimization:
Collaborate with maintenance, operations, engineering, and supply chain teams to identify opportunities for MAS and MIF-driven process improvements that align with power generation best practices (e.g., Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM), Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Predictive Maintenance). - System Configuration & Enhancement:
Lead or support the configuration, testing, and deployment of MAS functionalities and enhancements, including defining workflows, security groups, KPIs, reports, and leveraging MAS capabilities like AI-driven insights and advanced analytics for asset performance. - User Support & Training:
Provide expert-level support to MAS users, troubleshoot complex issues related to both applications and integrations, and develop and deliver comprehensive training programs to ensure high user proficiency and adoption. - Data Integrity & Reporting:
Establish and enforce data governance standards within MAS to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and reliability for critical asset and operational data. Develop and maintain standard and custom reports and dashboards (leveraging MAS's built-in reporting or integrated BI tools) to provide actionable insights into asset health, performance, maintenance costs, and operational efficiency. - Project Leadership/Support:
Participate in or lead MAS-related projects, including upgrades to newer MAS versions (e.g., MAS 9.x), new application implementations, and system migrations, ensuring successful deployment and minimal disruption to operations. - Documentation:
Create and maintain detailed documentation for MAS configurations, integration specifications, processes, and user guides. - Vendor Management:
Liaise with IBM and third-party Maximo/MAS vendors for support, new features, and problem resolution. - Continuous Improvement:
Stay current with the newest Maximo Application Suite releases and features, industry trends in EAM, IoT, AI, and power generation operational excellence to continually improve system utilization and drive innovation.
Qualifications:
- Education:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial), Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Equivalent practical experience will be considered. - Experience:
- Minimum of 5-7 years of hands-on experience as a Maximo SME, Administrator, Consultant, or similar role.
- Demonstrable experience with multiple Maximo implementations, upgrades, and/or extensive configuration projects, with a strong preference for experience with
Maximo Application Suite (MAS) deployments (e.g., MAS 8.x, MAS 9.x). - Specific and significant experience within the Power Generation industry is highly preferred
, including an understanding of power plant assets (turbines, generators, transformers, boilers, etc.), maintenance strategies, regulatory requirements (e.g., NERC), and operational workflows. - Proven experience in designing, implementing, and troubleshooting integrations using the
Maximo Integration Framework (MIF). - Technical Skills:
- Deep functional and technical knowledge of IBM Maximo Manage (formerly Maximo 7.x) and a strong understanding of
Maximo Application Suite (MAS)
architecture and its various applications (Health, Predict, Monitor, etc.). - Expertise in Maximo configurations (Application Designer, Database Configuration, Workflow, Escalations, Cron Tasks, Security Groups).
- Strong proficiency in
Maximo Integration Framework (MIF)
components, including Object Structures, Enterprise Services, Publish Channels, Endpoints, and external system configurations. - Experience with various integration methods and protocols (e.g.,
REST API, JMS queues, Web Services (SOAP)
, Flat Files, Interface Tables). - Proficiency in SQL (Oracle or SQL Server) for data analysis, query optimization, and troubleshooting integration issues.
- Familiarity with reporting tools such as Cognos, BIRT, or other BI platforms commonly integrated with Maximo/MAS.
- Understanding of containerization technologies (e.g., Red Hat OpenShift) and cloud environments as MAS is increasingly deployed on these platforms.
Basic understanding of networking, operating systems, and server infrastructure related to MAS deployments.
Soft Skills:
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a strong attention to detail.
- Exceptional communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization, from technicians to senior management.
- Strong ability to translate complex technical concepts into understandable terms for non-technical stakeholders and to translate business needs into technical requirements.
- Proven ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team in a fast-paced, critical operational environment.
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- IBM Maximo certification(s), especially related to Maximo Application Suite or specific modules.
- Experience with other EAM/CMMS systems and their integration points.
- Knowledge of industrial IoT platforms and their integration with EAM systems.
- Experience with data analytics and AI/ML concepts as applied to asset performance management.
- Understanding of IT/OT convergence challenges and solutions in power generation.
