JOB DESCRIPTION
Under general supervision, performs direct nursing care services and assists physicians in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in order to provide proper patient care.

FUNCTIONS
I. DIRECT PATIENT CARE
- Performs direct nursing care procedures, which include bedside nursing, hygiene, pre and post-operative care, and admission and discharge duties in accordance to the standards of nursing practice and hospital policies.
- Plans nursing care appropriately by involving the patient/family utilizing the Nursing Process (Assessment, Diagnosis/Analysis, Planning, Intervention, and Evaluation).
- Prepares patients for and assists physicians with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
- Administers medications and other therapeutics observing the 10 R's of safe medication administration.
- Refers patient's condition to Attending Physician observing proper referral procedure with complete information (Patient's Name, Diagnosis, Room Admitted, Observations Noted, Latest Vital Signs, Nursing Management given) and details.
- Carries out Doctor's legal orders.
- Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment of the patient by ensuring compliance to hospital policies and safety standards.
II. HEALTH EDUCATION AND PATIENT ADVOCACY
- Assists in the education and rehabilitation of patients and their families related to physical and mental health.
- Acts as liaison between patients and hospital personnel.
- Orientation of Patient's Rights and Responsibilities to patients assigned to him/her.
III. RECORDS AND DOCUMENTATION
- Charts accurately all observations, decisions, actions, and outcome of actions rendered to patients thru the utilization of the FDAR mode of documentation taking into consideration the time element.
- Monitors the inventory and maintenance of supplies, equipment and facilities, and ensures judicious use of supplies and materials.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
- Coordinates with other services in the hospital regarding patient care needs.
- Attends regular unit meetings and other training programs required.
- Performs other related functions as maybe assigned.
